Battery warranty vs price

Just bought a new battery, Halfords it was £130 with 4 yr warranty the battery shop was £75 but 2 yr identical battery.which would you go for?

75 quid, there will be all sorts of reasons you will never get joy from the warranty unless it is faulty new.

£75 it it lasts two years it’ll last 4 unless you ruin it yourself.

Good luck successfully claiming on the warranty if it fails after 3 years and 10 months.

2x £75 = £150 so I'd take my chances and go for the £75 one.

Same as everyone else, I'd buy the cheaper identical battery. Mostly because I know I'm not going through the faff of a warranty claim.

Halfords used to have a no quibble warranty replacements policy as long as you could produce the original receipt - now they will tell you their ‘test machine’ says it isn’t a manufacturers defect so they refuse to replace. My ‘dog with a bone’ neighbour was so incensed he had his independently tested and eventually got his money back from Halfords. I bought batteries exclusively from Halfords for decades but won’t go near them now.

I think Halfords probably don't have long left. It'll be a shame when they fold as they're one of the few remaining places you can go on a Sunday to get a battery but they stock less and less every year. I like their tools too.

If a battery isn't charging/holding a charge - what other defect are they saying is causing it if not a manufacturing defect? It either holds a charge or it doesn't.

What do you mean by "identical"?

Like tyres, they can all look the same and yet behave differently. In the case of batteries the internal parts can vary significantly and a cheap battery may well be "cheap for a reason".

When buying a batery it's IMO a good idea to buy from somewhere that sells a lot of them. You doon't really want one that's been sitting neglected on a shelf for months.

I bought the lower price. As many have said if looked after they last, the Honda CRV lasted 11 yrs frequent long runs.

I get mine from Tayna Batteries. I buy a good make, like Varta and they last about 8 to 10 years.
