Battery warranty vs price

Halfords used to have a no quibble warranty replacements policy as long as you could produce the original receipt - now they will tell you their ‘test machine’ says it isn’t a manufacturers defect so they refuse to replace. My ‘dog with a bone’ neighbour was so incensed he had his independently tested and eventually got his money back from Halfords. I bought batteries exclusively from Halfords for decades but won’t go near them now.

If a battery isn't charging/holding a charge - what other defect are they saying is causing it if not a manufacturing defect? It either holds a charge or it doesn't.Rangeroverer said:

What do you mean by "identical"? Like tyres, they can all look the same and yet behave differently. In the case of batteries the internal parts can vary significantly and a cheap battery may well be "cheap for a reason".
When buying a batery it's IMO a good idea to buy from somewhere that sells a lot of them. You doon't really want one that's been sitting neglected on a shelf for months.
