For the 2nd time in 3 days whilst handing over their heated front screens (that's 3 have got to fit) the customer has said that there was talk of a timer delayed switched wiring diagram with the parts list etc. for installation...is this the case ( I have no way of searching PH archives due to a Linux based internet computer without scrolling through each seperate page)

There was a PH member who's name escapes me (just checked- Dilbert) who was proposing to make a full set up for me and anyone else who was interested. I decided against it because whilst it was a good idea and cost effective I already have the bits for a simple electric set up so didn't want to spend any more if I could avoid it.
I offered his details on here and on http://public.logicacmg.com/~leess/ but no one contacted me. The offer still stands and I will happily put any heated screen owners in touch with him.
I put a few snippets from what I gleaned on both fitting and electrics on the above link, alot of that info came from Adrian anyway.
I have decided to get mine professionaly fitted because it is a complex job, which I would no doubt screw up at some stage.
There is an electrician at work who drew me a wiring diagram to fit in a timer relay, and illuminated switch. I don't think that is anything which Adrian couldn't do though. If anyone wants me to scan it I will.

I am trying to find out the fact from the fiction, I hear that a Ford switch with an intergral time delay is available, which to me sounds good, the basic electrical connection relay switched wiring is simple, but if it is out there then time delay would be better.

Aha.....

I had dialogue with Stigproducts, about the possibility, of devising something to solve his particular problem.

I did do a schematic, but it was a bit of a rushed affair, I wouldn't set too much store by it TBH.

I have plenty of time on my hands at the moment, and the whole thing has developed considerably since then. Whilst what I'm working on at the moment could do this job (as well as others), it's not really ready yet.

If Ford do a unit like you're looking for I'd go for that. I think I realised the limitations of the basic solution, in a commercial sense, not too long after I did the schematic.

If you want custom electronics devised for the automotive environment, give me a yell by all means. I can do proper circuit boards, and I'll even design enclosures if you want.

On the other hand if you can get what you need off the shelf, why not?

I WILL devise a wiring diagram for this over the next few days as I have 3 to fit...The basic system seems to require an alternator held in relay so that what ever happens the screen will not work if the engine is not running, thus the relay drops out when the engine is switched off and the screen will have all the power that is required to run (I need to look up the power rating and read up on the time expected to clear the screen to work out timer lenght and relay size and fuse ratings etc. all of which I have seen but no taken in!) it might require an 18 ACR to run it.....Also I will set it into the different wiring loom setups that the 69-80 cars run (not pre-alternator car in sorry)

I have a feeling that you might like my little product as and when I complete it.

I'll let you know when I do!

If it helps, the manufacturers told us the screen consumes 16/18 Amps.
According to my neighbour, only production cars with these sort of screens are Fords. Thats not true because my dad had a Jag S type with one. Still it's all the same parent company...
Anyway, my Mondeo has got one and it takes about 30 seconds to clear light misting. If you've got frost then a couple of minutes, and snow takes about 5.
What I really need to do is time the length of time the switch stays on for. I reckon it is about 5 minutes but I will time it and edit this post.

------4 mins dead on
