I could have sworn there was a thread on this but I can't find it.

TL:DR man burns Koran gets stabbed, guy who stabs him gets suspended sentence, Koran burners conviction gets overturned, CPS appeal and lose.

Koran burner wins landmark blasphemy case

Right decision IMO.

The original charge is even more bewildering: "Mr Coskun was originally charged by the CPS with harassing the “religious institution of Islam”."

I'm pretty slow to call for resignations but for the CPS to bust a gut over this is incomprehensible. Whoever thought this appeal was a good idea needs to go ASAP.

Good. It's not a crime. It should not be a crime. He should not have been charged. It should not have been appealed

And yes whoever was responsible, if you can find anyone admitting such - should be thrown on his sword.

Burning a Quran is not (should not) be blasphemous according to Islam.
Let's not forget that the third Kalif Uthman burned all the copies of the Quran which did not fit his narrative ("non conforming") during his lifetime.

Agreed; the correct decision. Sad that it took such a protracted process to get there.

I mean who could forget that?

This is the right decision.

Britain is being far too slow on some of this stuff.

On the other hand, it has set some good case law which others will find useful in the future.

In reading the previous judgment though, it was significant that it was outside an embassy:

"A protest outside someone’s home or a place of worship might well create an anticipation that those who witness it may feel vulnerable and, very easily, become harassed, alarmed or distressed. A protest outside a secure and recognised location for such activities, less so. "

Absolutely, criticism of an idea is not, and should never be, a crime. The CPS tying themselves in knots to try and make it one is very worrying.

Probably soon will be if Labour get their anti-blasphemy law through under the pretence of tackling "Islamophobia".

This is the thread.

Absolutely terrible that this saga got legs. In the (admittedly infinitesimally unlikely) alternative World where I found myself in this chap’s position I suspect my chances of funding a robust defence would be close to zero. So good for him, but what a concerning approach taken by the authorities.
