hey everyone,

i'm on a pretty tight budget for my next car, and i've seen this. i've never bought a car from NI before, and have no idea what to lookout for. i've seen this civic for sale for a pretty good deal, but surely, this doesn't make sense, right?

https://www.gumtree.com/p/honda/honda-civic-estate...

thoughts?

It's been on sale for 32 days, 187K miles, dented down the drivers side... cheap for reasons.

Assuming NI do same then check for 6 monthly MOTs in case it's had some minicab life.

Are you intending to repair it, or run as is? Looks like enough damage to have written it off.

The twisted steering wheel, when the wfront road heels look straight, could be concerning.

It looks very scabby to me...

I think I'd be happier with this one:

i'd run as is. im somewhat okay with car repairs, but anything major i wouldn't be able to handle.

ahhh, yes. I think this is just a function of it being registered before September 2015? The exact same car registered 3 months later is ULEZ compliant.

I'm just browsing for a few minutes - it seems to only be 308s, Astras and Focus petrols that are ULEZ compliant and under £3k

Decent car. My budget is realistically around the £2k mark.

I've seen a few Dacia Logan's on Gumtree too

Not the prettiest cars, but I they're cheap to tax, insure and run. Just thought I might get a bit lucky and get a newer car if I see one.

I think that the Logans are a good shout.
You can often find Ssangyongs at bargain prices also.

Is it an idea to go and find an auction which has lots of trade ins at this price point?

Possibility it has been bought damaged repairable, or is their own car, got damaged, insurance write off, bought back.

Reads like a dealer advert.

Enniskillen would be difficult to get to from either Belfast Int or Belfast City. Maybe 80 to 100 miles.

Autotrader shows 750 cars that are less than £2000 and under 60,000 miles.

I'm County Armagh. If it was a bit closer to me i'd go take a look for you. frown

You should ping him and get the reg. I suspect is a Cat N. vcheck or carvertical would tell the tale. MOT history check also.

A phone call to him would speak volumes. See how long hes owned it, service history, how does it drive, etc.

He's removed the plates for the photos. That tells you all you need to know. Don't believe any guff you get told about covering them up "to prevent cloning". It's total BS and the seller won't care a single jot because they won't be the owner in a few weeks time. The reason they're removed / covered and won't give you the reg is because they don't want you running the plates to check its history and find out it's either a write off / clocked / MOT fails and advisories filling 2 sheets of A4.

Move on. There are thousands of Hondas for sale if that's what you want.

If you need ULEZ go petrol. One of my sons has 2007 Civic 1.8. it cost £1200 on Gumtree, 70k, FSH (most with Honda) and other than tyres and a warning of rust on rear subframe ("they all do that sir") it walked it's MOT 8 months after he got it.

Do you also *need* the estate? Much more choice in hatchback.

There's much better cars out there, although at that end of the market most are utterly crap these days.

i know beggars cant be choosers biggrin but i'm trying to hold out for a car that has android auto. my current car has android auto, but the lease is up soon. i'm gonna miss a lot of features, but the only one that is a must for me is android auto. don't really want to fit a head unit with android auto, because of all the wiring and poor GPS connection...

Ah appreciate the thought, i've removed the car from my list. Too much of a risk for me at the minute given what everyones thoughts are on it
