1975 Honda CB200 Twin restoration project

Hi all

While waiting for a new exhaust I investigated the wobbly studs and the alloy threads had been stripped.

I've fitted helicoils and got some nice new stainless steel studs, but what is the deal with tightening them up?

I appreciate that the steel helicoil provides a stronger thread that the alloy cylinder, but I don't want to strip them again.

How about strong loctite and nipping them up firmly?

The 30 year old Haynes manual contains hardly any torque values.

Thanks smile

I’d just nip them up no loctite. If anything I’d be tempted with a dab of anti seize.

Anti seize.

If possible, even try duralac as it's specifically for dissimilar metals.

Helicoils only tend to fail on me if they're used on a through hole as opposed to blind.

Copper nuts are the best solution.
