Need to replace an aging super king mattress. Unfortunately has to be zip and link as access is difficult.

Budget around £1K

Any makes/models to recommend (or avoid!)?

We got ours from a hotel bed supplier - I think it was called Hotel Contract Beds. At the lower end of the price range but is very comfortable. The wheels on the divan bases are crap though, but of its mattress only, you should be good.

Not sure where prices start but I know Harrison Spinks do them.

Advantages to the zip are that you can specify the firmness of the 2 sides; and it's much easier to manage when flipping between the summer/winter sides.

We got one from Loaf. I think it was a bit more than your budget although can't remember. It's significantly lighter than the John Ryan mattress in another room but has been comfortable for the past 18 months or so that we've had it.

Perhaps out of OP’s budget but we have a Hypnos zip/link superking mattress and one thing of note - whilst I could lay in the middle over the zip without feeling uncomfortable, psychologically I stay on my side (each side being a single).

Our previous superking wasn’t zip/link and I used to enjoy rolling over the full width of the bed.

We went with a zip/link as the Hypnos was a much thicker mattress and wouldn’t have flexed enough to get up the stairs, plus I didn’t want to be bending or flexing such an expensive mattress

I have a feeling my budget needs more flexibility!

Mistakenly thought that £1K would be good mid-range stuff, but some of the ones I've seen online are horse-chokingly expensive: "Vispring Tiara superb", reduced from £18K to a mere £14,452 yikes

I recently tested a Vispring Tiara and it was incredibly plush. The margins at this price point at huge...
