Hi,

Gutted!.... Had an accident this afternoon which left the very front of my Chimaera ripped mostly off. As far as I can tell the wheels, chassis and engine were all missed only the rad had a minor leak. So I will be needing at least some major GRP bodywork.

Does anybody have any recommendations around the essex/suffolk border?

Found Hilton & Moss in Bishops Stortford....any opinions.

Thanks.....still 😭

Sorry to hear that.
Having been there have you considered letting it go and get the insurance money and start again?
Only reason I say that is if it gets a categorised status its practically worthless, I decided it was just too much hassle to repair it.

All I will say is that fibreglass damage can look drastic when it happens but is easier to repair than metal.
Hope you get it sorted.

I used them on two separate occasions on my Chim, not cheap but I am very fussy and couldn't fault the quality of the repairs - I didn't care, they hit me.

You're assuming it will get written off, in which case I'd agree, but a car that is repaired does not have a category otherwise, although it does sound severe. frown As usual, a thread needs pictures!

Whilst it's up to the insurers how things pan out, it's repairable:

HPC Classics Eastborne. The end.

A mate of mine has a TVR T350 which was totalled at the front end (properly totalled, your would be considered a mere scratch in comparison). They have taken a long time but it is now ready for spraying and handing over. Good chaps by all account.

Good luck with it OP!

I had a similar issue. I was on my way for a 12K service at Str8Six. They had it transported to S&D in Blackpool who argued the case regarding write off versus repair with the underwriter.

I would go down the same route. Most of the assessors don’t have a lot of experience with GRP these days, so tend to categorise that sort of damage as uneconomical. That’s where a good body shop can fight your case.

The bonnet looks easily sorted, and the wings/grill will be repaired with a front end repair section. If the rad’ is the original, then a good radiator repair business can recore and sort the end caps.

There’s far too many Chims and Griffs getting written off because of this sort of accident. I’d agree chassis looks undamaged.

I take it that it's a 500 by the purple rocker covers and the plenum badge (unless added?), in which caser the value should be quite a bit higher. smile

Surely it will only be categorised if you go through insurance? if you have the cash, don't tell em???

I don't have that much cash!..... It's the respray of the front that scares £ me!

I am hoping that because I have an agreed value on it, then the threshold for write-off will be higher!!

Its a tough call, I knew that if i had the front end painted i would have wanted the rest done so it has a bit of a knock on effect.
That could have been all close to £10k.
An inspector talked to me on the phone about the car, did not visit it to inspect it.
I got market value which helped the decision really even though it was a tough one, mine lives on in in someone else`s hands and looks good now!
The owner managed to get in touch via here.

The agreed value on the insurance is a good fallback, I usually go for that on my TVR. Excess is usually lower than a standard policy too. smile

I got rear ended in a Chimaera i owned, full rear end replaced at S&D Blackpool. Two days before they were due to drop my Chimaera off, I front ended my Tamora, similar damage to your Chimaera. They picked up the Tamora to repair while dropping off my Chimaera, neither were categorised.
