Current Situation
Discussion
I’ve been a lurker for some time and noticed there seems to be quite a few of us based out here in UAE (despite this section of the forum been dead!). Thought I’d start a thread to say hello and see how everyone’s getting on with the current situation?
Currently in Abu Dhabi, have been for 12 years, and no desire to up and leave at this time!
The last 4 days have been exciting to say the least!

Sports City here. Still a bit subdued. In the UAE for 4.5 years and have seen this side of town become busier and terribly congested in the last year or so, so seeing it like this makes it feel like old times.
Being laid off and my financial situation had both prompted me to consider returning to the UK prior to the current crisis anyway, and I only returned to Dubai last week to start getting ready to permanently leave before it happened.
My finances dictate my next steps. However, my view is that it's better to be here, wait a bit longer to see how the conflict develops and then consider whether to go, if need be, than to be out now, unable or facing difficulty/uncertainty getting in again and having to deal with all the potential ensuing headache.
Otherwise, given there is something of a PHer presence here, it may be worth getting together now and then on a social basis.
I have a JDM Toyota on classic numberplates that was intending to ship over to the UK from Jebel Ali this month should I permanently leave. I need to establish how to get around that, or find cheap sheltered storage / parking for now, so as an aside, if any PHers know of any spare parking then kindly do get in touch!
