Morning drinking?

Not looking down my nose here, I am waiting for my car so dropped into a Wetherspoons for a coffee and some breakfast.

Amazed how busy it is with folk drinking beers at 9 am onwards.

Anyone do it ? I am driving and doing a month booze free anyway so it even slightly tempted, plus there is some built in lines i don’t cross with booze, sun past the yard arm or whatever, six pm and rarely any earlier.

I get some people are different timelines due to shifts and whatever but drinking lager in the morning even on holiday just seems weird to me.

I would feel strange having a mild hangover at noon and wouldn’t get anything done.

Most seem to be nursing rather than swigging, I think it’s just somewhere warm to go for some company, the beer sort of incidental.

Seems pretty civilised all things considered and very cheap, paid £20 for two coffees and a sausage butty last time (including a tip) so £7.52 for a full English and unlimited, half decent coffee does seem good value.

I think Christmas day and maybe attending a wedding are the only times I would ever drink before about 5pm. Not that I drink much anyway, I can go several weeks without even thinking about it.

The one I've never understood is airport drinking. People guzzling pints of lager at 5am. That's just weird.

I am always amazed in airports. No matter the time of day. No matter how long your flight is. No matter what, there are folk swigging pints down.

I just do not get it.

The one that gets me is the guy who sits out at the front of my work and asks for money, while supping a can.

Must be nice not to have to work and instead sit around drinking.

Between flights at airports; yes, certainly, as it’s a time zone thing. Just randomly at pubs that open in the mornings for breakfast or brunch trade? No!

I used to work permanent nights and did it occasionally. After a hard day at work it's nice to have a little drink. Full English, a couple of pints and then bed.

When using the Dover Calais ferry I could not understand people downing pints at 7AM. Even more scary that some of them would be driving soon afterwards

Lunchtime is the earliest for me. It would just feel odd drinking before 12.

I've probably done it in my youth, but even then it wouldn't be regular.

I had to drive a truck to Germany so was allowed in the truck drivers canteen on the ferry.

The Brits were having full English and a mug of tea, the French were on red wine

Seen the same when driving in the Alps a long time ago. French HGV articulated lorry drivers sinking a whole bottle of rough red with a warming lamb stew before heading out and navigating the hairpins.

I aways assumed they were nervous flyers, but it seems Airport drinks are all part of the experience these days.

I do drink, I enjoy it, but I'm a very light drinker. Some people, I just don't understand I can't tell if drinking has to be part of anything they do for fun to make it fun, or the fun is just the excuse for the drinking.

For me, binge drinking, or drinking too frequently takes away more than it gives me.

The 730am Stansted airport 'Spoons pint at the kick off of any stag do reminds me why morning drinking is bad in every way.

I've just realised that I'll be morning drinking this Sunday in fact, although it's only 11am and I'm going to a wine fair with some friends which I guess is a little different.

I occasionally had a couple after a night shift, particularly if it was some hot and sandy. Bit of a treat.

Not a chance. I occasionally have a drink early afternoon in the summer if we are having a barbecue or have walked to the pub, but otherwise no.

As for airport drinking, I would be very happy if they stopped serving alcohol completely at airports and even on the flight itself. Would stop a decent amount of the stty behaviour I've seen on planes.

I think some do it as it marks the start of their holiday, for 350 days a year, get up, toast and a brew and off to the grind so it differentiates the holiday time as different and special.

But seeing people often what seems to be forcing down Stella at 7am does seem weird, I just know I will end up sat feeling woozy and needing a pee on the plane.

That said, been away with PHer Dirky Dirk a few times and we go in the lounge and avail ourselves of the supplies in there but that’s typically afternoon and we are complete animals when together when it comes to booze, us pouring spirit measures, ourselves ?

But at 7am, hmm no thanks !

The spoons folk definitely seem to be regulars at it though.

I need to have achieved stuff in the day be it work, house jobs or exercise and earnt my beer.

Everyone has a different perspective on it and can be judgemental of others. The person that will only drink after 6pm on a weekend will look judgmentally on the person that has a drink in the pub every evening and so on.... there are clearly more people available to judge those that have a beer at 9am in spoons .

I've not had a drink this year so I'll judge you all! Only kidding .

I used to have a drink in the lounge and on a plane, whatever the time. The fact I might be in the Concorde lounge doesn't make it different from the stag group in Spoons. Although i/we would be far better behaved and not wkered .

Not sure I'd be surprised walking in to a pub to see people drinking, much like I wouldn't be surprised to see people swimming at the swimming baths.
