Traveling between Berlin & Lausitz over the A1 GP weekend, I noticed two speed traps, that although I slowed down, it may not have been enough (surely, those speed limits were in mph!!).

Anyone know if z German police will pursue you via the hire car co. ?? and the situation on points/fines??

There are no reciprocal arrangements (at the moment) for endorsing UK licences for offences in Europe, but those clever chaps in Brussels are working on it!

So, relax.....

Nubbin is correct about Points/fines HOWEVER you may well get the fine lifted off your credit card from the hire company as they will have to pay it up front!!!

Thanks for the replies.

Just glad we stuck to the tdi passat, as opposed to delving into the fleet of Hertz 997's @ Berlin airport!

Thats the German MAUT. Its the road tax system for HGV's. Replaces the Vignette.

Nope, in Austria they have the GO system which uses a box on the windscreen to track you around the motorway network. Again only for HGVs. It a much simpler system than the German MAUT (Go is similar to DART Tag, drive past and it registers, MAUT uses GPS to track you, the gantries check you have paid) and alot easier to use (GO system you just go, MAUT you have to tell them about your journey ).

Unsurprisingly, the MAUT system is the system that the UK government are looking at installing here
