I despair I really do, I meet lots of idiots in my line of work, I really do. how do people cope when they have this problem, do you sit there shaking your head in disbelief or is it just a question of go with the flow.

The latest is today regarding a delivery, I ordered some stuff I need for work tomorrow, I knew it was coming today so organised the job for the following day, now normally Amazon, DPD etc just leave the stuff on the doorstep or down the side of the house and everything works out fine, if it goes missing then I'll take the hit although it hasn't happened yet in years.

This time though it was a different courier and he or she has left the parcel with a neighbour next door (yes the fat ones with the trampoline) I didn't ask them to do this and they have taken it upon themselves to do it. However the idiocy comes not from the delivery guy but the neighbour, pretty much as soon as the parcel was delivered the neighbour went out and as of 9.45PM tonight the house is still in darkness and they are still out.

Why would you be so stupid as to take a parcel in for someone and then not be around to let them collect it. How do they know how desperate I am for the stuff, and if they do go out why not just put it on my door step where they must have seen plenty of other parcels left. Knowing my luck they have probably cleared off on holiday for two weeks.

They probably felt obliged to take in the parcel, and are wondering why their inconsiderate neighbour can't organise his parcels for when he's at home.

That's the other side. tongue out

does anyone genuinely wait in especially for a parcel? I've had Amazon deliveries for well over 10 years now and never waited in for any of them and I think I've got all of them so far. I do occasionally take in parcels for other neighbours as well and I find I always have to take them round to them otherwise they would sit in my hall for days.

My point though was putting up with idiots, how do folk do it, I just want to clear off and go home and leave them to it most of the time. Idiocity is everywhere nowadays, from the second you get up in the morning you are confronted with thickos, they step out in front of your car, they give you the wrong thing in the shop, send you to the wrong place, give you the wrong codes for doors and locks, say they will meet you at such a time and place and then go somewhere totally different, and so on and so forth. I'm amazed most people even make it through the day.

I can’t see what you are blaming the neighbour for, they took in your parcel and you can collect it when they are in.

For all your neighbours know you might have selected 'leave with neighbours' for the delivery, why would they then risk leaving it on your doorstep to be lifted and subsequently suffer your ire.

Only one entitled idiot in this thread and its not your neighbours.

Surely the neighbour should say sorry I cant take the parcel as i'm not going to be around for a while.

"Leave with a neighbour" is a request not an order, which I didnt put.

Are you seriously saying ending up with a parcel trapped in your neighbours hous for 6 months whilst they tour Europe is a risk I should consider when doing online shopping.

I'm with you on this. They were kind enough to look after it for you. They could have said no. It's your responsibility to get it when they're in, even if it takes a few attempts. Of course they shouldn't have to stay in until you pick it up. That's some serious entitlement right there.

Again, it wasn't an order and it wasn't the only option. If they said no then it wasn't lost forever I could have simply collected from the depot.

If the consensus is its fine then I will start doing it, how long is acceptable to hang on to a neighbours parcel, a week, 2 weeks, a month?

One parcel gets delivered to your neighbour, out of 'well over ten years' of Amazon deliveries, and your catastrophising. Have they definitely gone on a six month month European tour, or is there a chance you'll get your parcel tomorrow?

It didn't need looking after, its not a hamster or rabbit, why get involved if it complicates things.

Basically, as the inference goes, if you meet one thicko [sic] per day, not a problem, but if nearly everyone you encounter during the day, is a thicko [sic] . . . well then, unfortunately . . . .

. . . it is more than likely that the OP is the ****** [sic]

I must think differently to most people, I would only ever take a parcel in for someone if I knew I was around for that day, I certainly wouldn't go out for more than an hour or so. If they didn't collect it by the end of the day then its a different matter.

I have blood pressure tablets delivered by post, what it was them

I’d say they’re not working if this is your reaction. And if a drug is that important you order well before you run out.
