My first M Car!
Discussion
Hello everyone,
I’ve just signed a deal on this, my first M car.
I started a new job 3 months ago which means I lost the free charging, a need to drive anywhere for a commute, and thus a use case for an EV. Unlike many on here I really like EV’s who hold strong views, I have been very much someone who has been a keen early adopter and a fan of that form of propulsion.
However I digress. What is most important that like many car nuts, I was itching for a proper car. I am 23 and have owned a selection of extremely boring, but financially optimal cars, including a Volvo V90 diesel, a Fiat 500e and my current car a Tesla Model Y (although it is the Performance). Each one was very competent but offered no satisfaction in the long term. I do own one other fun machine - a Honda Civic Type R but the dreaded rust has caused all sorts of issues and pain. Reason for all these boring cars was I was saving for a house. But for various reasons, I decided to put that purchase on hold and so for the next two years , a good car was on the cards.. f
k IT, i thought, i don’t drink, smoke, eat out or party, so why not!
So here it is, the BMW M2 I have just done a deal for. My head says “Mistake”, my heart is saying “Finally!”
It’s in a very bold colour combination: note bonnet is open - the shut line isnt that bad!!

It’s very much an animal. My Tesla would probably leave it for dead off the line, but the feeling of a straight 6, RWD car under load is just great and feels wonderfully analogue. It really does feel quite special to drive. I considered the Audi RS3 and the Mercedes-Benz A45 S and while those are also quite impressive, the BMW just wins my heart. It just feels like it’s in a different league. in M Driving Mode, it’s a bit of a handful and demands respect while not being a widowmaker.
It’s not a pretty car but I love the looks. It might be a bit cringe, but I think it reminds me of brutalist architecture (which I admire) and therefore I think it fits right in the UK. It’s unashamedly boxy and a complete antidote to the blobby cars of today. Zandvoort blue and cognac is an unusual combination but I think it works although understandably is marmite, just like the car!
Anyway, looking forward to finally falling back in love with driving, starting this weekend. A trip to the Nurburgring is on the cards very soon, and maybe the NC500 and South of France.

That's lovely; great colour. I'm a big fan of the M2; think it's a superb car
One of the web devs I've known for a long time has just bought a brand new one from Bowker BMW last week (well I say brand new; it was a managers car); but a superb spec and it's in a sort of dark green I think (not IoM Green)
Like you he started a new role 3 months ago as a contractor for the company I was working for as a contractor myself; so he's earning serious monty (x3 his previous salary) and wanted to treat himself to a 'proper car' as he calls it
Enjoy; look forward to seeing more updates

Well done, that is quite the car at your age! You'll have a lot of fun with that, whilst it is probably a great car to live with too.
Have you been to the Nurburgring before? It is a wonderful place but if you haven't, be really careful as there are a lot of people who behave like absolute idiots there, sadly most of them British. If you take your car on track it is not insured in any way. I hope you have a great time!

The new M2 deals are pretty tasty but for me, used still made more sense as I wanted a few choice options, plus depreciation over my planned ownership period. I was offered a 13% discount + 5 year service plan - now I am hearing 17% is possible! For £60k, it’s a lot of car for something brand new in 2026.
Green is great - I would have loved a green (especially Isle of Man!) over the cognac leather interior. Maybe ask him if he’s on PH, I would love to follow a thread on his!

Congrats, I really like how these look and think the hate they get is underserved. Enjoy it whilst you can!
Definitely! Good to know a lot of us like it! I remember when they came out, people were all up in arms. Personally, I prefer the looks to the F87, although I will admit the F87 is the more traditionally pretty and classy looking car. The G87 looks a lot more serious to me than the last one - even if it is not as raw on the limit, although it is a much better daily, which suits me as this will probably be my only car for now!V 02 said:

The only green you can get on the M2 is Java which is quite light (perhaps unfortunately), and hideously expensive! Colours generally limited across all the 2 series as it is made in Mexico. CantDecide said:
Congratulations OP, these have really grown on me and that colour combination is wonderful. In fact I ve been eying up one myself that is for sale near me in the same colour, except with the normal black (boring) interior.
Enjoy!
Thanks! I was a bit unsure about the colour combo, but anything is better than black, and makes the car feel properly special, and more expensive inside than its 2 series origins might show. Enjoy!
My Tesla has the white (pleather) interior so I didn’t want to go back to black! I am a big fan of light interiors as it makes the car feel less bleak and serious inside, although people may argue that this is less M ! . I ve always loved cognac ( both the colour and the drink
) so I was very pleased that it works in person! The Zandvoort Blue also feels modern and shows off the ruler and pencil lines of the car very well.I was reminded of this - which sold me!

Never been to the Nurburgring before, and going on that pilgrimage in a Tesla, a diesel Volvo or a Volkswagen Polo with 60bhp just felt so wrong. But as you say I have heard of the insurance consequences and the standard of driving on Touristenfahrten - think we all have seen the muppets on YouTube. All of my cars have been too precious to me, so I think I won’t bother to drive my own car on track but probably get a Ringtaxi lap. Contrary to what my car is capable of I am not an aggressive driver so I think I’d better leave it to the pros Have you been to the Nurburgring before? I think I am going to participate in Cars and Coffee, group drives etc instead, also want to do an advanced driving school to understand and master the car more as this is my first true “driver’s car”
