Having just received my renewal for my 250 Yamahahaha enduro bike which is impressively cheap, it makes me wonder just how cheap it can get.

I’m not talking about “classic policies” or the cost of adding a bike to a multi bike policy, I’m talking about a regular single bike policy with full ncb, straight off a comparison site.

There has to be an amount that is the absolute baseline.

On a single policy so not a bike added to an existing one there can’t be much point in proving one for less than £70.

When I came back in 2017 on a new £3K A2 bike I was paying around £110, but I am old limited mileage to 3K per year, I over declared and my God daughter rightly pulled me up about that, and I had use of a garage and used one of those Abus Granit X68 butt plug disc locks.

My bike is over 900cc and my insurance is well under £100.

It's weird. Apparently insurance is unaffordable for the younger generation, but for us old farts approaching 60 it's mega cheap. Less than £1/day to insure a £12k bike - seems excellent value to me. I cancelled my TV license, so that pays for half of it already.....

It seems that way - I have now got one year's NCB and my XJ600N is down to 27.5p per day.

I cover my 1 year old Norton 961 commando and my 2016 Ducati 1200 Multistrada for just £364. I have 6 points as well earned last year..

It's about the only thing that seems good value these days apart from my breakfast muffin and coffee for £3 at the lovely wetherspoon establishments throughout the country.

My Tesla on the other hand has gone up to £898 from £674. 22k business miles doesn't help, but still.

Insurance does seem to be massively in favour of older riders. I'm 46 and it does seem a fair that someone 20 years younger should pay 3-4 times as much.

Don't worry, a return to biking after a 13.x year hiatus with a 160hp adventure bike, a claim of the wife on my car policy means I'm subsidisisng all of you lot on the cheap deals. I'm sure the insurers are making money!

I'll set up a go fund me account to myself if you're feeling bad wink
