We move into our new bungalow next week. Top of the list is to replace the existing aging boiler.

At our current house we have had a beast of a boiler - Remeha 39C (36kw). Its been really good, exceptional flow rate for baths and showers, but its achilles heel is parts. We had an issue and found any parts were always back order and over a week lead time.

So whats the best combi boiler for performance, longevity and parts availability, hopefully one where common parts are coming with the man in the van if the worst happens.

You will get about 5 different answers, depending on what people have in their own homes and have been happy with or not.

I will put a vote in for Ideal. Made in the UK, mid price sort of brand. Mine has been installed 14 years and has been fine.

If you need high flow rate at multiple outlets at once look at storage combi's viessmann 111 or 222 are very good

I dont ‘need’ it, just prefer the flow rate for showers etc.

It’s a relatively small bungalow so looking at a pure combi.

They’re manufactured less then a couple of miles from my business. I suppose I should seriously look at supporting a local business.

Ok alot of combis will only do between 14 and 17lpm if that's ok then pretty much any will do but the higher the kWh the more it can do

The flow rate is dependent on the water supply into the property and the restrictions on the shower head, more than the boiler. The boiler's performance will be different in summer and winter - if your water temperature coming into the house is 4 degrees then you need more KW of power to heat that to shower temperature than if your water is coming in at 20 degrees. For a normal mixer shower then any correctly spec'd boiler should be fine, even in colder weather. If you want to be running a hot bath in winter then maybe you will need a higher spec. Most manufacturer websites will advise, or just look at the older boiler and see how many KW it is.

We had a Viessmann installed recently. Wasnt a great start as the circuit board was faulty. Once fixed its work flawlessly since. We went for a higher KWH one to get the hot water flow and its definitely better than the Worcester Bosch it replaced for that. If installed by a Viessmann certified installer it gets a longer warranty as well.

Apparently it remains efficient for longer than most combis because it has a stainless stell heat exchanger instead of an aluminium one. No idea if this bit is true though

In my OP I state our existing boiler is 36kw.

This pretty much seems to allow the flow rate in the winter to remain the same as the summer, its about 16lt / min. So I’ll be getting a similar spec in the new boiler.

Not wanting to get too bogged down in the power / flow rate discussion as that is just one aspect of the boiler specification, much appreciated as it is.

Really looking for recommendations in general for a solid combi that is reliable, good value and easy to get parts. Excellent warranty / customer should be high on my list too.

As suggested I can narrow down the specs from there.

Unfortunately we are relocating the boiler from the kitchen to the loft.

BOXT and other similar outfits are great when replacing like for like. They add nearly £1k extra for moving the boiler directly above where in is in the kitchen to the loft in a bungalow.

I have spoken to a gas engineer who lives opposite and known in the village who will probably do the work.

I’ll obviously ask him for his recommendations when we move in

Ideal Logic 35kw ticks all those boxes.
