So, in short, sounds like our (integrated Zanussi) washer/dryer has a knackered bearing and isnt recommended to be repaired - according to a couple of repair men. Intermittently sounds like its going to take off, repair man said not to use as it "could throw a belt at any time"...

Anyone else had a similar issue? and what did you do?

Its only just over 4 years old.

Second question is, as its integrated, how easy are integrated cupboard doors to swap between one machine and another? say moving from my Zanussi to a Hoover/Beko/Neff etc etc. Does it need a replacement cabinet door too?

Thanks

I had a Siemens integrated WM which had some kind of bearing problem and sounded like a train derailing. The chap looked up the part needed but it wasn't available so that was it, new machine time. Even if you could get the part/s, the cost plus labour might be much of the cost of a new one anyway.

On doors, I was lucky - the new machine was a Bosch (same company as Siemens) and the door fixings were in the identical position so the door went on perfectly. However if you change brands I think you can expect to have to refangle the door furniture.

See if you can remove the integrated door and work out how it is affixed and if the fittings can be easily repositioned. Not the same but I've refitted our integrated dishwasher door at least 2 times now after replacing the dishwasher a couple of times.

I went from an Electrolux to a Bosch fitted washer dryer, the door sort of fitted. I had to put it on loosely and then tighten everything, something was like a mm-ish out, it opens and closes and sits fine though.

Also it's fractionally longer than the old one. I measured the depth but hadn't realised that the wall socket was slap bang where the drum is, so it was a tighter squeeze than I was expecting. The new one also had a plug rather than bare wires, I didn't want to hack the plug off straight away, so wired up a socket temporarily, obviously it's still there 2 years later...

My integrated dishwasher died a week after the washer dryer!

Bearings can be fixed, but as suggested they are cost prohibitive. Had the same recently.

Regarding integrated doors, on two separate occasions recently I chose the fitted option when purchasing both a new washing machine and fridge freezer.

The guys that came were brilliant. Both times they didn t quite fit straight out of the box, but they made swift work of a few small adjustments to get them sorted. This was Currys, the small premium for the service was well worth it. Definitely recommend.

Thanks for that advice, its good to hear re. Currys as that echos almost exactly what a colleague said today. Sounds like their fitting service is worth the extra. And Currys is likely gonna be the place i go this weekend.

Thanks again

I could tell you about the time I had currys install an integrated fridge and damaged it in the process. Oh how I laughed at having to drag them through the small claims process to get my money back when they denied any responsibility.

Like most things these days; when things go well they go well. When they don’t, you get to find out the type of company you’re dealing with.

If you find a model you like you can often find the mounting instructions for the door in the instructions online.
This allows you to check the current door will fit ok on the new machine.

And if it doesn't, some nifty work with a router might do the trick. My MFI cupboard door had no idea it was going to have to take hinges for a Siemens WM...
