Not me sadly but I thought this was an interesting piece.

I can't open a bank account because I'm too rich

And yes I can spell but something is broken on the forums where it strips out some apostrophes smile

It's probably a made up tale to appeal to their core readership.

It isn't. I've been through this sort of crap with Vanguard when just trying to deposit a sum of money that wouldn't even buy a two terraced house in Reading.

Ok let's say click bait headline then.

I, too, preferred the days when you could just say whatever you wanted to get a mortgage or bank account.

Of course it is.

"I can t open a bank account because I m too rich
Presumption of wealth as a red flag for fraud is now deeply ingrained in British culture"

Elderly PHers will be reading this over breakfast and be harumphing about the state of the "communist" nation as they gaze out across their Capability Brown designed estate (to check for immigrant trespassers). Their 30 year old current wife will do her best to calm him.

He will then hit the roof again when he reads yet another article about school fees and that Meghan Markle.

Well that's certainly an interesting insight into what's inside your head.

But when you have a Capability Brown designed estate you may suddenly feel the same way...

Isn’t the problem more to do with using a personal account for business expenses?

Yes, moving from suburbia to a gigantic country estate would be indicative of communism to anybody.

Oddly enough the top Communists are rather partial to country estates!

I’m confused- how do rich people get bank accounts if they’re not allowed?

They send a flunkie to courts who do it in their behalf then report the inconvenience to the right wing press.

Isn't this what Private Banking was invented for?

Always nice to pay for one's latte in Costa with a no-limit Coutts credit card.

Obviously one's Butler does this while one sits in the back of the Bentley with Jokasta and Breetnee.

Harvee is away at boarding school in Dubai.

Nouvelle riche.

What's not to like.

This isn't really a new thing. I had all sorts of trouble trying to pay in a £100k+ cheque nearly 15 years ago

The claim that Britons hate anybody that might be richer than them seems to be true, judging by some of these comments. Personally it doesn't bother me if somebody has £10M or £100M; well done to them.

In this case maybe just mild disdain for some wally who can't open a bank account.

Or a newspaper making a story up. Again.

Nobody wants regulations around banking or money transfers until they’re a victim, or their mum is.
They may seem like unfocused sledgehammers to crack nuts, but what else can be done?
