Guys a workmate has a problem, the car lost power and stopped dead but a mechanic got it going again and it ran ok for a few miles then stopped again.
It’s £700 to fix apparently but I’m worried if it’s got further damage and it’s £700 wasted.

If it was revived after breaking down how bad can it be and is £700 about right ?

Are you sure it’s a chain issue ?

I’d usually say around £1000, it’s a days work if you do it to a good standard

They say it’s jumped a cog which to me sounds terminal but they can get it tinning it just doesn’t last

If it’s jumped a tooth then other than stripping it and putting the timing right I don’t see how they can get it too run before it reverts to running poorly again. These also have the habit of cooking themselves, seizing up but will then run once cooled down.

Hmm ok so fixed twice and lasts about 2 miles and dies. Could this be the cooking overheating then cooling then ok?

What’s the cooking fix? A flush?

Usually a replacement engine.
