Considering a 4 night stay early September this year…

Never been, and if we don’t go here then we will be back to Italy again.

Anyone been, any must do or don’t bother tips ?

I love Malta but I haven't been for a few years now. It's a very friendly island with a lot of history and interesting things to see. I would say:

1. Stay in or around Mellieha - nice beach, easy drive to places and some decent hotels and restaurants;
2. Hire a car for at least a few days;
3. Visit Comino but do it early morning. Gozo is also well worth the trip.
4. Visit Valletta and Sliema;
5. Mdina is also excellent - no cars allowed;

Be careful of the time of year you go though. If it's rainy, most places flood very quickly.

If you do a search there's several other Malta threads with lots of suggestions.

It's definitely worth a visit, for a short trip I reckon it's best to stay in Valletta or Sliema to cut down on the travel to the main sights.
