It is indeed good news. Hopefully we can show off the best of best on some great stages.

This is great, wonder what stages it will use?

Great but bloody miles away, seem far away places are the only places that can hold rallies these days, not a bad thing as it controls numbers, but I will not be going, could get to Ypres, Monte or a few others easier with less arduous driving.

A big well done to all involved for getting a WRC event underway , can't help but feel a bit sorry for Bobby Willis and hie team who have been trying for an Irish round for many years , which IMHO would have been a more popular choice .

Will be good to see WRC going somewhere different, it can get a bit same-old-thing at times when they have mostly the same events repeating mostly the same stages year after year.

This event will be similar, it is the nature if WRC I think, I too, feel Irelandhas more to offer, their association is pushing lots of drivers into WRC events, anda rally there would be hugely popular, not saying it won't get in Scotland, but Aberdeen is a damn long way for a lot of folk but a lovely part of the world

It's great news, and possibly surprising - however, Scotland have money for sporting events; Tour de France, Cyclocross World Cup in December, and now this.

I have a few concerns, remembering that IRC Rally Scotland lasted 3 years before that ended; and like that event, they're basically starting a new event. What is the legacy? Shouldn't they have taken over a current event, and made it WRC worthy? It seems like another event set up solely for the benefit of the WRC and not the whole of the sport in the UK.....which is what happened with RallyGB over time......

That an even with the history of the RAC/Rally of GB, disappeared for 7 years is so poor from those responsible for it; it should have been able to run as a National 2 day event to keep it going - but was eventually financed solely for WRC purposes - and when that ran out, so did the event.

Well you can’t have it all ways. For the 10’s of millions of us living north of Watford this is certainly closer than the rest of the WRC and it’s a nice drive as well.

er, cough Grampian?

I think it's great, a positive step back into the world championship. I'll be there, doing something, what, I don't know at this point, but there are so many events that need marshals and officials at all levels in this country. I just want to see it do well.

He has to have something to complain about to make him happy. I'm delighted a World Championship round of a sport I actually enjoy is being held in Scotland - only a few hours up the road from me and hopefully some of it will be in Speyside.

It's not a complaint, it's just an observation, that it would be better in Ireland and Aberdeen is a fair ways away for a lot of UK rally fans.

No, much as I like Ireland, it's a ferry or flight and massive increase in costs as a result. I didn't go to the last one in Ireland for the same reasons.

Aberdeen is just further to drive. After all, I already go to the Argyll and Mull rallies, as do many of my southern marshalling compatriots.

A proper gravel rally will be better for the championship.

No matter where they go someone will complain that is isn't in their back yard, and someone else will complain that it is in their backyard instead of somewhere more exotic... hehe

I guess Chile would be the closest WRC round for me this year, though Japan might be similar distance...

Was under the impression this round was asphalt, if not that is better yes.

My point about Ireland is that their federation has been very busy pushing several drivers nationally and internationally up to WRC, and they have every right to feel a little hard done by, as they seemto be investing in the sport quite a bit.

But, it was there before and did not stay long, so maybe there are multiple reasons why it has not gone back, despite it's popularity there.

The truth is that a private individual (John Coyne) has been responsible for organising and funding the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy and the "federation" have been made to look good as a result. I'm not sure how much credit the federation actually deserve from that, and it certainly isn't enough to "win" a WRC round.

Also the Irish bid for WRC foundered on two fronts - 1/ they were rather liberal with the truth when it came to potential economic benefit and the Irish government called their bluff and 2/ they seemed to try to shame the Irish government into supporting them.

Whereas the successful UK bid was generated by lots of hard work and networking, with quite a lot of transparency (if you bother to look in the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire council records).

Personally I can't wait for this, my first ever stage rally competing, marshalling and (apart from Mull) spectating was the Granite City and this should use similar stages.
