"Magic John" Screen Protectors - Utter Scam
Discussion
So yes, i know that these things are a product of stupid marketing but was taken in by the guy using a fugging axe to brove the durability.
I ordered 2 kits, one for my phone and one for my daughter and within a week of application both scren protectors were cracked through normal every day use. No drops, no impacts they just appeared.
Amazon refunded them after a bit of a fight but it infuriates me they are allowed to get away with this nonsense and make a lot of money because people aren't as much of a pain in the arse as me and will actually follow up a refund.
Anyway, now that's out of my system does anyone actually have a recommendation for a screen protector that is duarable? I'll settly for a complete case system but i get annoyed with the bulky ones.

YMMV but I just get the 3 packs of tempered glass for a fiver(ish) and replace every 3 months. Something like this .... https://www.amazon.co.uk/NEWC-Designed-Protector-S...

My daughter has just cracked her first one after 9 months by dropping her phone on to a stone.
A fiver for a 3 pack from Amazon and 2 minutes to swap over and I will keep using them as they certainly do the job on a teenagers phone!
Yeah I think this is the way. £20 for 2 is a scam. A fiver for a 3 pack from Amazon and 2 minutes to swap over and I will keep using them as they certainly do the job on a teenagers phone!

I use the spigen tempered glass. £20 for a 2 pack
spigen stuff is very goodcurrently using ESR, very high quality with a super easy to use frame, 3 for £12

they are worth using even if you dont break them they stop fine scratches, i sold my old iphone for top $ because it was physically brand new

Yeah that is quite pricey.Spigen is also nothing special as a brand any more, it used to be my go-to for phone stuff but I've recently chucked away a case of theirs as it was allowing the phone to move inside it and it has scratched the glass back. A previous clear Spigen case also went yellow (which is fine if that's an inherent issue with clear cases, but don't call it anti-yellowing then).
I use Ibywind protectors. They're pretty "generic-Chinese" but critically they do include a plastic frame which lines it up perfectly on the phone. Fits the phone perfectly, with no bubbles.

This, I buy the dirt cheap glass ones from eBay and they have all been fine. The secret is the application and making sure the screen is spotlessly clean.A fiver for a 3 pack from Amazon and 2 minutes to swap over and I will keep using them as they certainly do the job on a teenagers phone!
I make two hinges of tape and line the screen up as best I can. I then add another piece of tape to the front of the screen protector as a pull, peel the backing off, use the sticky dust collector and then pull the screen protector across the screen and tap it in the middle. It is very satisfying to watch the stuck part spread out.
My daughter actually bought some from amazon that come with a plastic click on surround that allows you to line it up perfectly, these ones look very professional if you can do it with no dust and bubbles.

All the screen protectors I see on phones are either cracked, bubbled or peeling off. They generally look a mess.
I guess that's because when well installed you can't really see them!ThingsBehindTheSun said:

I did some new ones recently and they had this click on surround - makes it impossible to not put it on straight, much better. The ones I used were JeTech 'with easy installation tool' from Amazon.I don't bother with screen protectors, I've dropped my phone twice recently, once onto a marble hearth and the other time out of my pocket onto a supermarket floor.Neither caused any damage, I use a bumper case that cost a couple of quid off ebay.
It seems to be mostly iPhones that get cracked screens from my experience, mine's a £200 Samsung

I find it hard to accept their particularly beneficial.
It's not like they give in an impact so the majority of the force will be transmitted through the rest of the phone.
Not exactly true. Quite apart from the scratch protection they absorb any point impacts - the screen protector breaks & absorbs the energy not the screen underneath. It's not like they give in an impact so the majority of the force will be transmitted through the rest of the phone.
The two protectors I've broken have been from edge impacts that the case didnt block and the protector took the knock not the expensive bit underneath it.
Spigen protectors work OK but so did the much cheaper NEW'C ones I got the other day, which managed to install noticeably easily and bubble-free.

Try having an 18 year old who insists on having an iPhone Max and then refuses to put it in a case as it looks "cooler". Who then pulls the screen protector off because it is cracked, and when you ask to fit a new one has a hissy fit because "they are too busy" or the phone is upstairs.Guess what happened next. Doesn't matter though because you just buy a brand new one every 18 months.
My £200 Honor Chinese phone is three years old and pristine obviously.

Agreed. I've never managed to crack or scratch a Samsung. I use my phone until it no longer functions so they get years of use.It seems to be mostly iPhones that get cracked screens from my experience, mine's a £200 Samsung
All I use is a gel case but without a screen protector.

That's easy because a phone bought for my 18 year old is the last phone I ever buy them. Guess what happened next. Doesn't matter though because you just buy a brand new one every 18 months.

When the missus does it, that's another story
