Waze alert sounds on Android phone

I use my I Phone car play on my PCM compatible car for Waze, but my other car PCM isn't Car Play compatible so use an Android phone with a data sim. On my IPhone alerts for things like pot holes are spoken but on the Android I get a high pitched loud chime, which is awful.
I have checked the settings and both seem the same.
How do I switch settings to have alerts such as pot holes and level crossings to voice on Android?

Have you got "notifications" allowed within the Android Auto app? Maybe use Google Maps instead of Waze?

I use Waze on android, through Android Auto, and the pings are standard for most things. The only alerts it 'speaks' are 'hazard reported ahead', 'police reported ahead', 'accident reported ahead' and 'speed trap reported ahead'. Although there could be more but I've turned a lot of them off so they only show on the map with no audible alert.
