I’ve always fancied a project car. But I’m not sure what would be good. I fancy a Range Rover. But I’d be open to suggestions. An old Mini would be my ultimate choice but well they’ve skyrocketed.

What do you want from the car?

Is that 6-8K finished or to buy a starting point? What kind of resources/skills do you have?

That would be a starting point. I’ve done some mechanics at college a while ago, so I’m okay with basics.

What do you want to do with the car?
Plenty of cheap classics around or do you want something more modern?
How soon do you want to have it on the road and useable?

£6k to buy sure but how which do you expect to be able to spend on the actual repairs and refit? £6k on a midget would go a lot further than £6k on an XJS for example

Mx5 is of course the answer, mk1 easily in budget loads of spares and parts available.

I’d have said mk1 mr2 but they’ve jumped in value already

I would like a classic car. I did think of maybe a P38 Range Rover. I just want something that I can take out on weekends and have some fun with. A MX5 isn’t a bad idea.

I had a Cherokee. It was ok but it was a £500 car at the time and a load of money wouldn't have made it feel drastically better IMO.

Cherokee is fine until you want parts and if you go petrol be ready for <15mpg if you push hard on the motorway.

And, US build and design is not like European. Leaf springs etc

There is a Chimaera on Facebook marketplace for £7500 and it states its a bit of a project but you can almost guarantee its in need of a lot of work.

Porsche 924/944 or a 928 if you're feeling adventurous.

And if the engine is goosed, pop a Busso in instead.

That 80 looks okay. I like the matching roof and also the fact they also have the hard shell. Having never owned one I do quite like it.
