Replacing Kitchen Cabinet Doors
Discussion
Anyone replaced kitchen cabinet doors only? Is it worth the hassle, and does the outcome look as good as the companies make it sound?
We're in a fairly recent new build, but being honest neither of us particularly like the kitchen. Its a modern looking matt grey, which we picked when buying the house. I hindsight I think we should have taken more time, but there was a lot of options, tiles, flooring, carpets etc to sort and think we now need to change up the kitchen.
Its all in very good condition, so not keen to replace the kitchen entirely, but how good does the replacement door option look? I realise I'd need to replace plinths, end boards etc.
Is it quite straight forward? Its a Kitchens International setup, im assuming I'd need to go back to them for the same sizes/fitment?
Quite happy with appliances and worktops, just the cabinet doors only.

Thanks, ill get a look at DIY Kitchens.
I did consider the paint/wrap option but think id prefer a change of door style, like shaker, something more traditional.
Im just worried it sounds very simple, but could end up being more hassle than its worth with all the little odd bits that also need changed.
Or end up looking like a car thats been wrapped, with the doorshuts a different colour to the outside

I've done it a couple of times.
1st time I ordered unpainted doors online, fitted and painted then a chippy to replace the worktop. It was okay ish, never quite as good as a professional but better than before.
2nd time local kitchen place (we spoke to kitchen refurb places but didn't gel with them) replaced doors/top/plinth. As good as a new kitchen.

I renovated an old, but good quality, kitchen in a previous property using new doors and plinths from Kitchen Door Workshop. https://www.kitchendoorworkshop.co.uk
With new handles, worktop, sink and tap, it looked brand new when complete. Very easy to do, I did a use a router to cut slots in the new drawer fronts for older style drawer inserts, but all door hinges were accurately pre-drilled.
I've also used DIY Kitchens for another project which required new units - and would recommend both companies.

I done my kitchen by replacing the doors etc. The carcases were in good sted and well fitted, so seemed pointless to remove to then put new ones up, plus, money...!
You will always have issue with corners, plinths, bespoke bits etc, but there is normally an easy solution, you just need to figure it out! Then they'll sell panels of all shapes and sizes, it's up to you to make the best of them and not waste too much. You'll also want to think about finishing edges, plinths, cornice's etc. My previous kitchen didn't have either, I decided to add a plinth to hide the bottom of the cabinets a bit.
Doors are generally standard sizes, so you can just like for like them. Get exact measurements and compare to other brands, also measure the holes for the doors. In mine, the top hinge hole was perfect for the height of the door, but the bottom one was out. Rather than risk damaging the new doors, I just drilled new holes in the carcases and put white stickers over the old holes. Not perfect, but you don't notice anymore.
Take lots of photos of the kitchen, including inside of cabinets and go talk to a kitchen company, they'll advise of all the challenges.

Thanks all, plenty to think about. We did get a quote to repaint the whole lot for around £3.5k, I think if there wasn't the desire to change the physical look of the door we might have just gone for it. Maybe still will actually as I guess it would be a whole lot easier!

Has anyone successfully used a vinyl wrapping company for their kitchen?
Heard lots of talk of them but I ve found it challenging to get one to engage and am now looking at the same options as OP to refresh my kitchen
A colleague has just done this, including wrapping his worktop. He's said never again, wishes he'd replaced or painted.. Heard lots of talk of them but I ve found it challenging to get one to engage and am now looking at the same options as OP to refresh my kitchen
If you are happy with the configuration of the kitchen and everything inside is in good condition then, yes, it's the most cost effective way.
We did it 8 years ago using a company called Dream Doors. It was their speciality and we chose the design we wanted (finish, fittings etc) then he measured up, made them and had a fitter complete.
The IKEA units we had were still good after the previous owner fitted them in 2008 so it was a good move for us at the time.
Only now are we having a new kitchen as we are having an extension next month so re configuring completely. I think the original kitchen has done well. A bit Triggers Broom but much better value than ripping out every 10 years.
