Takeaway points:

- only in some boroughs to begin with
- bi-directional: can ping approaching cars as well as cars that have driven past the camera
- can scan five lanes
- longer range than existing cams
- no road markings to show the “kill zone”.

Do we know if they are proper type approved speed cams that will result in enforcement (rather than the send a warning letter action)?

Well fk IAM and fk tfl thieving wkers. London doesn’t need any more cameras/yellow boxes/20mph limits/ltn/cycle lanes and all the other money making schemes that have been implemented.

Say what you think... don't sit on the fence laugh

In all seriousness, I totally agree. That's why my car never goes into the central 20mph zone any more. I park and tube/walk/uber from there, it's just not worth the stress.

What is needed is more patrols, my 35mile commute home earlier today I counted 5 drivers using their mobile phone

Good to see good use of money being used to counter real crime in paying for the technology and installation of these cameras. These will surely solve the crime everyone is up in arms about.
If only they could put this much effort into solving other crimes.
Go shoplifting and it’s fine as long as you don’t speed away over 20mph.
Spend more money trying to educate the public to watch where they’re walking rather than persecute the motorist.

I hope so.

Cams that get you as you drive towards them, or uncertain range and without markings on the road, are a definite step up in the camera game.

Wild horses wouldn't persuade me to take my car into London. The whole place is such a sthole I avoid it.

If it’s any consolation, if these cameras prove to be profitable, err, effective, local authorities all over the country will wish to share in those profits, err effectiveness.
