2.2 Tdci belt or chain
Discussion
Looking to buy an Smax after mine was written off by a plank in a Transit.
I’m favouring the 2.2 for a little extra torque.
The car is a 2.2tdci 197 with a July 2011 registration.
Googling gives me mixed results with some saying it’s a chain, others a belt. The one I’m looking at would be due a belt, but the seller says hasn’t been done which is why I’m keen to know.
Anyone able to give a definitive answer? I think it’s belt but anyone with more confident knowledge would be appreciated.

Thank you.
That’s what I initially thought. But it is bumper, wing, bonnet, slam panel. The killer was the A pillar had a minor twist in it, and also it wouldn’t start… the start motor was making some very unpleasant noises so some mechanical repairs needed too. It was a 2012 car with 150k on it… so very easy for insurance to write it off.
