I am respraying our Hyundai santa fe bumper before selling it. I've rubbed the area down and primed it, will spray it white in the next day or so. Do I need to apply a lacquer or clear coat? How do I know if the paintwork has had it out the factory?

Thanks

Ok thanks.
How can I tell if it has a clear coat. Or can I just use one of those spray cans and be done.

All paint has a clear coat, the colour is called base and is a 1k air drying paint. It then has a 2K clearcoat over the top of it.

The white you brought in a rattle can may have had a gloss added to it, but its not clearcoat. If you want clearcoat in an aerosol you have to buy the stuff thats 2 parts, and you pull the pin in the bottom to mix it, you then have an hour or two to use it before it needs binning.

Are you respraying the whole bumper? You cant blend clearcoat you have to paint the whole panel.

2K is also very dangerous, at the very least you need a 2K respirator, H&S guidance is an air fed mask, but thats not practical for DIY.

Yes I'm doing the whole bumper.

I was quoted £400 to respray the bumper and sort a dent in the bonnet but the chap can't do it until mid April.

I might just leave the bumper and get him to sort it.

That’s a fair price for a bumper and a bonnet dent.

You can DIY it but applying clearcoat is a skill, let alone the H&S risks, it will be a much better finish respectfully.
