I watched the livestream on YT with Auto Addiction ( English commentary). I love the NS and there was some good racing there. Max very impressive in a Mercedes. ( I am not a Max fan in particular but seeing him in a very different car shows why he was been so successful). I cannot post a ling from YT but it is all there.

by far one of the most exciting GT3 races on probably the hardest track , and you come out with a statement like that

I watched his qualifying laps and as usual they demonstrate his ability to make a car just dance on the limit. Old farts (most of them younger than me) drone on about modern F1 drivers not being seen outside F1 , being a bit girly compared to (yawn) Moss/ Hunt/Senna but Max rather undermines that lazy cliche .
Let's face it this is merely a way to prep for the big race in July or whenever, he is with new team mates, and very good ones who are very experienced Merc guys, so this is about sorting the car out. He was quick, superb stint from the Audi guy initially to hold him off later and pass him early on, but they they both enjoyed that.
The odd aspect is this in Winward, the go to team for winning in the USA, and they messed up, maybe coz Sebring was also this weekend, spread a bit thin?

As I understand it the regulation is 24 tyres across qualifying and the race and 28 were used.never mind

I am not some kind of Verstappen fanboy but I very much doubt that he was aware. Three drivers sharing quali and the race. I would put this down to a screwup by the crew during quali and not some sinister plan by Verstappen. I was very impressed by his drive on a difficult track with multiple classes. ( I have driven there many times but only track days and TF). Unfortunate but of course the DQ was a the right decision. I would love to see more F1 drivers do this kind of thing.It s a shame Verstappen coming sportscar racing brings so much nonsense with him.
He is in the rare position of possibly being able to dictate terms to his team, rather then the other way round, Imagine it comes with insurances and he would be paying out if stuff happens, but that is a risk RB take,
I think he will be done with F1 soon anyway, I imagine he enjoyed that hour with the Audi more than much of the last year or so in F1, he has a fairly new attitude to it all these days can see outside the box more than most in F1.
Trouble is right now he can maximise his earning power, so if he quits, he is probably losing tens or hundreds of millions, not many could or would do that,even Max.

Indeed. The best he could do is negotiate down the times he has to spend doing F1 sponsorship nonsense to free up time for GT racing. He'll surely want to have a crack at Le Mans as well, but I suspect that would have to wait until he was done with F1 (or moves to a team that also runs at the front of the WEC).It was a shame (a genuine error I am sure) because Max and his co-drivers did well.

In fairness, he has already made enough for two private jets and a yacht. One would summise he probably isn’t far from not needing another penny again. I think he will be done with F1 soon anyway, I imagine he enjoyed that hour with the Audi more than much of the last year or so in F1, he has a fairly new attitude to it all these days can see outside the box more than most in F1.

In that circumstance you largely do whatever the hell you want. Absolutely could see him walking away from the 66m’s he’s on for a bit of fun elsewhere
