Hi all

I viewed a F430 last weekend and had a PPI carried out this week. It showed the clutch needs replacing immediately and cracked manifolds. Plus a few other bits but these 2 major items wouldn't be immediately obvious to the untrained eye.

The car is a private sale and listed on autotrader.

What's the etiquette here? Do I share the reg number on a forum so another prospect buyer doesn't waste their time/money? Perhaps quite unlikely they would come across my post anyway.

Have you Googled the reg number? Maybe somebody has already posted online this vehicles faults?
If you were to post the reg, a simple Google will mean anyone who wants to buy it will see your post. I mean, everyone in the market for a used car Googles the reg plate, don't they?

Yes I googled the reg plate. The car was previously sold on collecting cars circa 4 years ago, so I found that advert. Nothing else came up.

On my HPI, it showed 4 private plates on the car over the years. I googled each one but nothing came up.

I don't think it's that common to Google a prospective car plate.

Assuming this is the on at the very cheaper end of the market?

If it is the red one that is advertised on Autotrader for £66,950 the seller needs to either hope he can find someone gullible or factor in the results of the PPI into the asking price. Did you try to negotiate with the seller or did you lose interest in this particular vehicle?

Good work detective.

I made a reasonable offer to reflect some of the work required and we aren't that far away on price, but he's not budging any further.

Hopefully they will see sense because a fresh clutch and manifolds would in all likelihood make it a sound purchase for you for quite a few years. I am on my second F430 and think they are good cars and decent value at the moment.

Been for sale since July 2024 so coming up to two years. I wonder if any other potential buyers have had it inspected in that time.

For clarity, the reg is YA05 UBY

What do we think is a fair private sale price?

Needs:
-4x tyres
- annual service
- new clutch (showing 92% worn)
- exhaust manifold

plus a few cosmetic bits inside and out.

Thanks

£3,000 ish for a clutch, £700 is for tyres (well for the F360), not sure how much manifolds are. Doesn't seem like a terrible price to me, especially if its a car you are going to actually use.

- Tyres - £1,000
- Major service - £1,320
- Clutch - £4,080
- Exhuast manifold - £5,520-£8,000 - depending on manufacture.

Can the manifold not be welded? I've heard of this being done on several Ferrari models as well as the F430. Maybe not as ideal as replacing with OE or aftermarket, but I'm sure much less costly even if parts have to be removed to do it properly.

Last year clutch on the 360 (same I think) was £3k, Belt service on 360 is £1,300 so I would have thought the major would be a bit less. I guess it depends who you go to. I use AV.

I reckon shopping around for tyres would save a bit. I am having a full set fitted to the 360 on friday,I am paying £647 for premium tyres to Ferrari spec

Doesn't the engine require removal to replace the exhaust manifolds? If so, then may as well fit a new one.

Prices are from AV.

Aldous must have put his prices up! He is doing the belts next month - maybe I should put more pennies in the piggy bank

You don’t need to remove the engine to replace the exhaust manifolds on an F430. Aftermarket ones are usually easier to install than the original ones are to remove because they are more compact.

I’d guess that anything under £60k would be a decent buy assuming that everything else is in decent order.

You might want to rethink the tyre supplier, or at least ask them to cnfirm the date codes when you order them.
