I was in a shop and saw myself in the mirror! laugh Granted shop lights are different to other lights, but I looked pretty grey! Not the barnet, for that is luxurious and sleek, but skin tone! eek Not really a surprise, getting up in the dark, coming home in the dark. Rained for most of the year

So thinking a few sessions in a tanning salon would help (there's inevitably a couple near me) Not looking for the full orange. Just a bit of a colour. But as a beginner I dont want to get red raw the first time.

My basic understanding is start with 2-3 mins, then a couple days off. Then repeat. Then top it up a few minutes once a week or so. Once we get into the longer days, probably wont bother.

Apparently you need to buy the special goggles from the place as just shutting your eyes isn't enough. Looking to do all over, wink so think a stand up one is the answer.

Tips from the more experienced on here would be appreciated.

Dont use a tanning bed, unless you want skin cancer.

Spray tan or by a bottle of gradual tan and do it at home.

If its just your face I use a company called Horace and they make a healthy glow fluid which just gives a subtle hint of colour.

Did consider something like this. Google says L'oreal, and even Boots do their own mens versions.

I'd worry about it being obvious that its fake. eg streaks or slightly uneven coverage

I hear this a lot, but is it actually true. Less than 8 mins a week, for a few weeks cant be that bad overall. not planning on every week forevermore. Is it worse than actual sunbathing on a hot day for an hour? Surely smoking, drinking etc have a far higher "exposure to cancer" risk

Seems overkill. And I dont like the idea of covering myself in a weak paint! Feel like it would transfer to clothes and surfaces!

Yes its actually true, sunbeds are awful and drastically increase the risk of skin cancer by a massive amount. The UV power is the equivalent of intense tropical sun and many times worse than sitting the pub garden for a couple of hours. You really think youre going to use it once or twice and like how you look and then never go back? If you dont get skin cancer youll end up looking like a tanned hide in later year.

Why ask for advice if youre going to ignore what is common knowledge. Drinking and smoking are shocking badly for you as well. They are all avoidable risks, but you makes your choices and you take your risks. There are easy and better alternatives to look like you've had a bit of winter sun

Maybe this isn't possible, but is the solution not to spend more time outdoors in sunshine (with sun screen on of course!)?

Self tanning and sun beds just seem a little unhealthy and unnecessary.

Is your diet ok? Are you well hydrated? I'd sort those things out first if not.

I suppose what I am trying to get at is try to be healthy, rather damage your health trying to look healthy.
