This may be a stupid question, but why are smaller bike numberplates not allowed? 8"x2", for example....does the size render them unreadable by flash'n'cash machines?

If you've got high level pipes, mount it in between, makes it virtually unreadable from the side.... Where the scammers usually are

A few years back a had a plate made for my bike after the origional was damaged outside Slough Police Station !!

I ordered a slightly smaller version. 3.5mm in width and 2 cm in length than origional.

I did however have Get Fcuked on the bottom ( was younger and a little stupid maybe )

My mate later decided to get one done with FCUK YOU on. Thinking that the french connection sign would be ok ?

Anyway, 15th december 2001, 2degrees celcius, A3 northbound at Petersfield, Hants.

I slowly catch a police car up. I estimate his speed was a comfortable 100mph.

I decide to stop and let him go up the road a bit, and rest my very sore leg. Anyway ....

I go up road again, he pulls out from junction and VIOLA - i get pulled.

Warned about various offences including getting nicked proper. He rights me up and reports me to court. No £30 ticket or defect form - COURT !
Aldershot mags court give me £85 fine, £35 costs.

Write the bike off early 2002 summer in diesel spill ( after an accident - which wasnt cleaned up very well )

Never will i bother with small plates anymore.

But some look good, especially on super sports bikes, where the tail section looks good.

Small plates and race exhausts can be locked together in the same category a waste of time cos their both illegal and completely pointless.

I am still amazed about the number of bikers that fit both these items and wonder why they get singled out by the cops. I find race exhausts plain irritating on the road some are so loud next to you that they drown out the sound of my bike and I'm sitting on it!

Personally I've never ever bothered with either and never intend to. An aftermarket road legal silencer however is a slightly different matter.. and would consider one of these as an OE replacement if necessary.
I prefer the patented stealth mode approach to riding.. why give the game away that you're ahemm 'enjoying' yourself!

I disagree - I like a sports exhaust on a bike. OEM exhausts DO restrict the engine and providing the noise isn't excessive it sounds cool.

Plates on the other hand I'm not sure. My old R6 had one on when I bought it:

(note the akro' too )

But I don't know whether I'd actually buy one myself.

Smaller but not ridiculously small is the way to go on plates.....just tidys up the rear end IMO, and as long as its readable....whats the issue?

With regard to noise.....the noiser the better IMO, gets the stupid chav'd up corsa's and escorts to move out the way, coz its the only way they'll hear you coming over their ICE and lack of attention to the road
