This project has had a VERY long gestation period.

I actually bought this kit over 30 years ago, did a bit of internal painting on it and put it back in the box until 2021. I then pulled it out of the stash, did a bit more work on it and then put it back on the box again.

I've finally decided it needs to be finished and have resurrected it again, hopefully for the last time.

Prior to the issue of the newer Hasegawa/Revell and Airfix kits, this was the best 111 model around (in 1/72). and it still stands up. Of course, for many, the fact that it features raised surface details would be enough for some to dismiss it but raised details have never been a problem for me, as long as they are not too pronounced.

I'm going to be completing this in the colours of a KG55 aircraft which was based in Northern France during the Battle of Britain.

The decal sheet is actually from the long defunct Frog kit so is at least 50 years old. In my experience, old Frog decals stand up very well, even though they can never be younger than 1976 (the year Frog went out of business).

I never built the Frog kit in period so cannot remember how I manged to acquire the decal sheet.

The Frog set is on the left and doesn't look too bad despite the years.

Ever since I saw the film as a ten year old, I've wanted to build a Heinkel He111 model. It's only taken almost 60 years
