clonks and bangs

Why does my Ultima Sports make all sorts of banging and clonking noises over less than smooth roads ?

It appears to be secondary noise i.e. reacting to the suspension movement but not the suspension itself. It's not the suspension mounting bolts or rubbers.

Could it be 6yr old rusty spring/dampers ?
Could it be body panels knocking about ?

Who else has a Sport and does it run quietly over bumpy roads ? (I'm not talking about the wonderfull drive-train noises).

Has it got worse then over the years? My GTR makes noises over bad roads, with stiff suspension I suspect you just have to put up with it. In the past I have looked for anything that could be moving, vibrating, rubbing or hitting but never actually found anything other than the front clip catching the scuttle slightly! I guess without much (or in my case any) sound insulation you get to here everything, even body panels creaking as they twist ever so lightly.

Interesting that you mention body creak, I didn't remember hearing this on the demo car when I had my trip out in it.

But I do have the same noise as you at slow speeds

I get a few rattles as well in my GTR...

maybe it's the the gear shifter rods???

Also, when I jacked the car up to change the oil, it creaked like the wooden floor in a horror movie!!!

my sport was awfull after i degreased and clean the suspension.

the bushes had gone dry. I had noise like panels were rubbing. it was horrible, the fix was to dismantle all four corners and lube with pace rc mounntain bike grease. this stuff is non lithhium made for plastic elastomers in bike forks.
