... but too few to mention" as Big Frank said..

Chatting with a friend in SA the other day and he reminded me of my huge mistake in not buying what was (unbeknownst to me) a proper, valid, pukka racing unicorn, namely a genuwine Muzzy prepped ZX7RR. Yes, the real deal... Doh!!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I really do kick myself over that one...
Oh, and not buying an unmolested Bimota VDue from the guy that owns Blackstone Tek carbon wheels. He wouldn't sell the Ducati Supermono he had next to it in his office foyer at their factory in Johannesburg but still, the Bimota was a self inflicted kick in the arse.... some months later the business was doing much better and the bikes were off the market...hmmmmm fek!

What about you???

Not so much missing out on buying but I’ve sold a few, both bikes and cars. 1989 CR250 for £270 anyone? Or maybe an immaculate RS1600i for 2 grand?
Dear me if only we knew

Realistically,very few.
I didn t have the spare cash when I was you ger,now I m older Im too tight.

Car wise,I had an R reg Peugeot 106 Rallye, wheels, suspension, exhaust and chip and induction system had all been changed.
A really well sorted chassis that stuck like glue.

Part ex it for £2000 against a CCM 604 supermoto.
I still kick myself.

Flogged my Fizzy in 1984 for £20 to a mate. Front brake was knackered as were the tyres & various other bits. It would have been relatively straightforward to restore as the frame & paintwork were ok. Would be worth good £££££ today....

Only bike regret was selling my awesome 2001 XR650R with only 8k miles on the clock for £1k - back when used bikes did not command huge money, and back when I was an idiot. Only one of those statements is no longer true.

Lots of car selling / buying related regrets.

Bought an RSV4 Factory from Superbike Factory. It had the hot start issue they get and they took it back to fix it. Then prompty "dropped" the bike and broke engine casings, levers and fairings etc. I goy all my money back but the wife has taken it to use towards the daughters wedding fund now so I blame SBF for me not having a bike. I did fall in love with the thing for the short period I had it though.

Selling my GSXR 750 SRAD when 4th gear went on it instead of fixing it.

Although my wife wasn’t sad to see it go, it wasn’t particularly pillion friendly.

Yamaha FZR 750RR 0W-01 for 5k.

Yamaha YZF -0W-02 R7 for 8k.

Still hurts, don't ask.

Not buying an immaculate RC30 in 1992 for £5250, girlfriend and pillion requirements meant Fireblade won out. To be fair the Blade was with me for 20 odd years, so not the worst decision.
Buying a Hornet 1000, watching the oil disappear after every ride, wasting time talking to Honda UK, then dropping £4.5 after px ing it, that one is a bit too recent to laugh about.
Going back a few years, having my CBR600 serviced on Monday with a fairly hefty bill and then getting it stolen on Tuesday, still think about that one 35 years later!

Wow, I didn't realise you had an 0W-02 John! One of the best looking bikes ever, I think.

My main regret is selling a Mk1 RS250 Aprilia for £1000 in about 2001-02. I was back from Australia penniless so I had to sell it quickly. I also had a Mk1 (1.3L) Peugeot 106 Rallye like the fella above, which I sold for £3000 from memory to fund the Australia trip. That would've been in about 1999-2000 time, the bloke I sold it to wrote it off within a fortnight.

I also regret not replacing the '94 Honda RVF400 I had in my teens in the late 1990s. It was stolen and I replaced it with an FZR400, which I hated. I couldn't really afford another RVF as the insurance went up so much but I feel if I had I'd probably still have it as they're such lovely things.

Not a regret as such but maybe more of a disappointment...

Had a Triumph Bobber Black for about 4 or 5 months. It was a lovely bike, sounded great, ride was ok, looked amazing but was such a one trick pony that I decided to move it on after a short period of time.

Long days on it weren't possible - too uncomfortable, small tank etc
I found it was perfect for those summer evening rides but that was all. I needed it to be more than that.

Sold my KTM 950 SMR in 2020 for £2200, and since then haven't really had a bike that has excited me as much as that did or made me want to ride every possible minute. Such a regret

Many many years ago we were at the Beaulieu autojumble, there was a 900ss Hailwood rep in the car park with a £3500 for sale sticker on it, I offered £3000, he refused, and as they say, the rest is history..

As others have mentioned cars my regret dates back to 1997.... parking my 1966 Cortina Super GT in Brighton Station car park, never saw it again. Even then I'd decided it was a forever car and I honestly believe it would still be in the garage now had it not been stolen (although probably resulting in financial ruin as it would have had to be restored two or three times since).

Only real biking regret was going from a VFR750 to a VFR800...solved a year later but getting rid of it.

Selling the hard tail chop I built using 600 teapot engine and running gear. Was pretty ropey (although never let me down or failed an NOT). Should have kept it and got someone to rebuild it to a higher standard when I wanted to ride it more.

Decided not to buy a mint genuine Ducati SS750 Desmo for £10K back in 1993.. didn't like its silver/green frame/bodywork. Now worth well over £100K..
