I uncovered this lot (and a lot more) under the loft boarding whilst I was doing a loft conversion, bizarrely the thicker loft insulation was in the loft but still wrapped up, maybe the books were keeping the house warm smile

I remember someone doing cavity wall insulation using crumbled polystyrene,
he was bringing packing home each night and tipping it in from the roof eaves,
I assume the loft was next,

I boarded out my loft with old doors when we changed all the doors in the house, suppose that's no stranger to the next owner.

It's probably the most environmentally sound idea, many of the 'waste not want not' ideas from that generation were.

Waste product repurposed, factory waste disposal costs reduced, better household energy efficiency.

Doubtless some wonk from the council will pop along shortly to explain how it's a fire hazard, has to be removed, 'may' contain asbestos and therefore must be landfilled by the haz-waste company who slips him a brown envelope every so often, and the homeowner must pay for all of this.
