Afternoon all,

Vauxhall have announced price reductions and a revised approach to their pricing structure for the facelifted Astra hatchback and estate. I will admit that non-performance Astra s have never really been on my radar but I think that their latest strategy actually makes a lot of sense, particularly for the 95% of buyers who just want a car to offer value for money, be reliable, comfortable, and safe. Driving enjoyment and performance aren t near the top of most peoples priority list.

In summary, for each trim level Vauxhall are offering the buyer their choice of bodyshell and power unit for the same price.

So in base trim all hatchbacks and estates with your choice of mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or BEV are £29,995. In mid-spec GS trim all models are £31,495, and in top spec trim all models are £33,995. Actual purchase prices are likely to vary in the real world but the official list prices are the same across each trim level. I m guessing they are reacting to the ever increasing choice of lower price point alternatives from China.

Will be interesting to see if other manufacturers follow this approach.

Seems like a decent car, the idea of having choice in powertrain and body shape all at the same price is great and at the same time shows up all the others that charge you more

I'd love to see it catch on

A good idea which keeps things simple for customers.

However, how many buyers actually pay cash for a new Astra? Unless Stellantis Financial Services is also keeping the residuals the same for each variant of a trim grade, then the monthlies on PCP or PCH are going to be different.

I think these look smart. I would much rather have this than a smallish SUV/Crossover.

Well done Vauxhall, I hope they sell these in record numbers. I was always a Ford guy growing up, but this is exactly the kind of choice and pricing that people need. I hope the rest of the European car industry takes note.

For a company that often had the highest or near highest output at any given engine size, the glacial acceleration of their EV offering when the MG4 Trophy sits around the same price point shows how out of step Stellantis are with EVs.

I remember Ford doing similar with the last of the Escorts in the late '90s. Saloon, estate or hatchback, all the same price.

Good looking cars as well.

Will Citroen / Peugeot be following suit?
