M1MacBook Air dead after macOS update
Discussion
This morning I started the latest OS update on my MacBook (macOS Tahoe 26.4).
This evening I went to check on the progress, and the device is dead as a brick. None of the suggestions I have found online have any effect.
I bought it the day the M1 chip was released and have not had a single fault until now.
Not happy.

All those options require the power button, but mine does not respond to the power button. At all. With my old MacBook I used to have to use recovery mode from time to time, but since the introduction of the M1 chip it’s lived up to old adage of Apple products that “just work”. Until now.
I’ve seen instructions for using a 2nd Mac to help recover it. I’m going to try and get access to one to try that.
Had similar on my uncle's M1 Mac Mini...and Apple Support had us take it to the local Apple Store (pre-booked appointment) for them to do it themselves, as there was a firmware issue that needed to be resolved.
They tried and failed to do it during our appointment (the update was taking 2 hours to show them how it was failing), so they kept it for a few days and called us to pick it up once it was all done.
Not had an issue with any updates since.
