Removing sticker residue from bedroom wall

Hi All,

My daughter has had a large sticker on her bedroom wall for the last few years and now I’ve removed it ahead of painting the room I’m left with a residue that needs removing.

Any thoughts on what chemicals I can try please? I don’t think sanding alone willl be enough unfortunately.

white spirit, I use it all the time to get the gunk off glass jars from stickers. Use very sparingly and then wipe off using a non-stick scourer after a few minutes, may need a few passes but will do the trick.Then wash down with soapy water to get rid of the niff.

Considering some heat gun action too, this is PH after all.

Screw fix have a “sticky stuff remover” which is pretty good. A flat scraper and a hairdryer can help.

We definitely were not doing this just yesterday…

I’ve used De-Solv-It Sticky Stuff Remover in the past, worked well. You’d then need to clean the area with something as it leaves it very non stick.

Could be worse. I was talking to a chap round the corner who was redecorating his BTL house after the tenant did a runner. Her kid had scrawled on every single wall with crayon and felt pens, as well as the usual trashing of all the white goods. I always thought she (the tenant) was a bit odd, as I saw her on a few occasions cutting the decent sized front lawn with a pair of scissors.

Anyhow, back o/t, generic sticky stuff remover and some sugar soap should do it,

It's also good for removing dried on superglue from fingers. Ask me how I know

Try acetone (nail varnish remover) or brake cleaner. I've found meths or white spirit rarely does much good.

Thanks this really worked well I used a kitchen sponge abrasive side and I could immediately see it and the paint come off. Followed up with coarse sandpaper and I think some zinnsser cover over just for good measure.

I think acetone is about as strong as you can go with domestic chemicals but do you have to be a bit careful as it can attack some plastics.
