I was making fair progress down a good stetch of road that used to be NSL until a few years ago and is now 40

As I slow down to head in to a 30 village, I hear a siren behind me. A short while later a police car appears in my mirror. I pull over to let it past. It stops behind me. Wha..? 'You want me?' I enquired?

The policeman who did the talking turned out to be a Police Driving Instructor and he was teaching the other two how to do pursuit. I confirmed I was local and this seemed to please him. He clearly judged me as a sensible fellow who, essentially, wasn't doing anything he hadn't been doing! So he gave me a short and amicable lecture on how not to get caught speeding, and let me on my way. I shook his paw and told him that was how policemen get respect - by using judgement.

So, Driving Instructor Terry *****, I salute you as an example of proper policing!

(maybe I should have offered to give them some more pursuit practice in return for immunity from prosecution :hehe:)

It sounds like you needed it if you let them catch you on a lesson...

Me in TVR, them in Escort-type thing - 'we were doing 65 and you were pulling away...'

'I should bloody hope so mate!'

Ah, all the things you want to say but don't
Wonder what would have happened if I'd shaken thenm off? Suppose they'd radio ahead for help or just me a NIP in the post?

Is it the exception ?

In my driving history I've been stopped by 5 trafpol. One 2 of these occasions they would certainly have been justified in ticketing me, but didn't. All 5 stops were justified.

I received degrees of warning from "take it steady" to "if I see you doing that again you're nicked".

Having said that, the last of these was several years ago. This might be connected with the total absence of trafpol where I live.

I think it's important to split off the trafpol from the scameras (and included in the latter are trafpol doing scamera work).

But I don't think the population will make that seperation.

I have always like the " Youre on a bike, forget points and fines, its your life, stop being an idiot, would you like to die "

Gives another meaning to telling off.

Worked once in Surrey, nice chap who'd jumped from a bush with his pro laser gun.

ST, come on, the tips this guy gave you on avoiding getting caught speeding ... maybe there's a new gem in there we can all benefit from

Don't get your hopes up, it was - 'watch the limit'. I could tell he knew they were as daft as me, but hey, it's a living.

I would like to think he said to his pupil 'There sonny, see how that TVR's going? Copy that.'

whilst i support this individual sentiment, until the rest of the force have the balls to stand up and condemn an activity which is done in their name, under false pretenses and shrouded in lies, misinformation and manipulation then they don't have my support in any of their other activities. Once detection and deterance levels reach crisis point without public support, perhaps a few more influential police will speak out as to the effects of their decade of revenue collection.

What outside Paddington Green nick? That's hardly a fair bit of road to trap on. I thought it was bad enough at the other end of the elevated section Eastbound where at least there is potential conflict with pedestrians / parked cars.

Francis,
You views on scameras are one thing but to condemn the entire police for everything because of them is just a little too harsh....

yes i know. it's unreasonable and slightly illogical. BUT the only way i can see these retarded road policies getting reversed and these b@stard scammers all getting fired is when the police turn round as one and say enough is enough. i just dont see that happening until public support is completely withdrawn and they know why... i think the move to these 'partnerships' shows the top brass are worried that this is already happening and they are trying to distance themselves.

(and no i've never been scammed. yet)

The exact bit, I have aired my views with the person concerned (can't come to call him officer or collegue) and he is oblivious to my views WR !!

As for the other end I was sitting at lights with Old Oak lane the other day, directly behind Porsche 911 turbo in a FULLY MARKED CAR, facing into town. The porsche took off and I followed, remember the highway code "check mirrors before pulling away" anyway in 40 zone, clock him on provida doing 88MPH. Stupid !! Much to the annoyance to many here he was well and trully put in the book. Reply to caution " Can i have a warning, I did'nt see you".

What a prat. Although lucky for you they've finished those roadworks up on the elevated section which were improperly signposted, thus preventing speeding charges...

I have to say the temptation to press away from Savoy Circus and as the elevated section opens up is tempting, however there are two pedestrian crossings and a Gatso before the elevated section, and I usually hop off at the West Cross Route roundabout anyway (although that is fun at it's 50 limit).
