If she feels its harassment.

Just a piece on Sky news about this.

Jess Phillips MP saying and I quote

"I have been on an empty train and a man has come and sat next to me, there is no crime there.... thats what we are changing today"

In the Sky article that lasted 10 minutes not a single mention of this applying to males. The entire piece included only women in the filming and it was only from the female perspective.

They said in the past the police / cps would have to prove a history of harassment - but now just a one off is enough.

Penalty is 2 years in prison.

I think its a heck of a step in the direction of all men being wronguns.

Just to be the first to say it but if I saw her on a train I would gladly wait for the next one .

Can we also make it an offence to unnecessarily park next to another car (or just my car if that's easier to implement) when there are loads of non-adjacent spaces free in a car park?

If there is an almost empty train carriage and a bloke goes and sits next to a woman, that would be a bit weird.

There are plenty of circumstances where it would be weird if he didn't!

Maybe it’s just me but if there are plenty of empty seats it would be extremely weird to go and sit next to a single female.

Is it not just common sense/ a bit of consideration for women for blokes to sit somewhere else?

If the man then starts picking his toenails I can agree with her.

It's a bit weird for anyone to come and sit next to ANYONE on a train or bus if the carriage is empty.... That would put me on edge regardless if it was a man or woman. In saying that i'd be more concerned if a man came and sat next to me, not because of harassment, but because he's basically threatening you, but equally could be a woman who's threatening you.

I guess if there's no guard to kick the 'harraser off' then you'd be pretty concerned as to their motives!

But 2 years in jail for one offence..... More like pull the emergency cord and get the guy/girl kicked off at the next stop?

I am pretty sure Sky news are not going to wheel out the Chief Constable of BTP and an MP for an April fools joke.

She's his wife. Or his girlfriend. Or his mother. Or his sister. Or a good friend.

Right. What about a bloke that isn't known to the woman?

That's one circumstance where it would be weird.

2 years in prison weird? Based on how someone feels? This law has removed any safeguards against someone with an agenda against the opposite sex.

My wife was watching it at the same time. She said if someone did that to her she would just get up and move to another seat if she felt uncomfortable.

I was on a fairly empty bus a few weeks ago (I know, but the car has just broken down) when a young girl sat next to me. Wouldn't have been so bad, but my wife was sat in the seat across from me, as she had our dog and the seats weren't particularly big. Cue me staring at my phone and out of the window for the rest of our journey laugh

What would she have done if he’d followed her?
