sony digital 8 trv120e camcorder
Discussion
Need clarification
Had this for years and is still in working order
Ordered by SWMBO to get the vidoes of the grandkids transffered across
Last time i did this , plugged in the IEEE1394 connection to PC and off we went tranferring the videos ocross no problem
The cable has done a walkabout so need a new one
Everyone i have looked at gives a warning
Important Functionality Note: This IEEE 1394 4 pin to USB adapter is designed specifically for data transfer and does not support video capture functions from DV to computer. Ideal for transferring files from your camera to a PC or laptop
Am i correct in thinking this means live video cannot be transferred but video already recorded is ok
Apologies for being a bit thick...lol

Presumably this is one of the miniDV tape cameras; in which case the adapter probably won't work, assuming it's USB 2.
Rather than transferring the video as a file, they played it back and effectively re-recorded it from the tape to the computer.
Later models were actually file based, but still used firewire - so the adapter would be fine.

Ahh, at the time I did this I had a Mac with a Firewire port. Rather than transferring the video as a file, they played it back and effectively re-recorded it from the tape to the computer.
