Skoda Octavia vRS 245 estate

Picked this up yesterday. I’ve always had VW’s until I decided to break the mould and get a Kia Proceed which I had a good 4 years with until a misfire developed last August and it was back and forth and back again to the dealers until I eventually threw in the towel and decided to get rid.

It was between the Octavia vRS and a BMW 3 series 330d tourer but decided on the familiarity of a VW group product. This one came up with a nice spec, good service history and one owner from new.

Picked it up yesterday from Huddersfield and stopped on the way home to buy a dog guard and boot liner from a facebook marketplace seller. The seller threw in a set of custom sunshades and even helped me fit everything. Top bloke!

The boots on these Octavia’s are huge! Plenty of room for the dog and our bulky Out and About pushchair:

First job is to get the DSG box and the diff serviced, then a towbar before holiday season. Then I might swap the wheels for the 18’s as these are a bit “Halfords Ripspeed” for my taste along with improving the ride, and of course tyres are much cheaper.

But for now, I’m very impressed with it.

They’re great cars. I had a 245 challenge hatchback for 2 years. The only downside I can remember were those bloody wheels and the stupidly low profile tyres that come with them.

If I’d kept it longer I would’ve bought some nice 18in wheels and tyres with a decent sidewall on them. I think in 2 years I had 5 punctures. More than I’d had in the previous 20 years!

Brilliant cars. I've had my manual lift back for 5 years. The smaller diameter wheels are very good. Boot on the lift back not a lot smaller than the wagon. Only problem I've had was the electro-mechanical thermostat failed about 6 months ago.

Great cars. We have a Mar 2017 230 wagon, same colour, and we love it.

It's now 9 years old and only has 73k miles equivalent on the clock. It's been bulletproof, albeit recent expenses have been high - VAG service incl. DSG oil change, diff oil change, engine oil & filter, plus sunroof drain cleaning and s/r rail re-grease was EUR 840 ... then new battery fitted and coded was EUR300 on Good Friday - dealer wanted EUR400, so I'll count that as a small win...

We also have the 19s for Summer but 17s for winter. 17s *just* clear the rotors and callipers ....

Nice, think I would rather one of these than the equivalent GTI, do these come with the diff that the GTI has?

Went to see my mate who knows these cars inside out to get the DSG serviced and a general look over. Clean bill of health all round but a couple of little niggles to sort.

Firstly the passenger mirror doesn’t fold VCDS reports an open circuit so a broken wire in the door seems a likely culprit. Secondly the aircon isn’t brilliant, VCDS reports low refrigerant pressure so hopefully just needs a regas (famous last words!)

First time I’d driven it the dark, puddle lights were a nice surprise!

Got a real soft spot for the vRS, had a mark 1 and a mark 2 (estates) years ago as company cars when the kids were young and we used to go to France on holiday, great all rounders IMHO. Hope you enjoy it.

Had a vRS 230 estate new back in 2016 - grey with the pan roof. Only had it 12 months but enjoyed it

It was the manual and wish id got the dsg at the time

Wheels are always a personal thing. I've had a 2018 VRS in the same Meteor Grey since new and have the 18's which I prefer the design of.

Hope it treats you as well as mine has OP. Every so often I think I should replace it, look around at the options and think nope there's nothing I'd rather have at a sensible price (to buy and maintain!).

A trip to the tip before moving house stands out, took it rammed full of stuff which I was expecting to take 2 trips and it did it in one and then returned on quiet roads having fun. That sums the car up to me.
