With all the car theft lately…

Been noticing a lot of stolen car posts and they always seem to disappear after a day or two, even when people are trying to help.

Out of curiosity more than anything, I knocked together a simple site over the last couple of weekends to keep reports and sightings in one place instead.

Idea is just that if something gets nicked, it doesn’t get buried and people can log sightings if they spot it.

Not sure if it’s useful or not yet, but interested to see what people think or if there’s anything obvious missing.

I guess the issue is who is going to bother logging into that site unless they've had their car nicked.

One thing you could do is to build a social media account on FB or similar then post with links, news and updates. Subscribers would see the posts.

Yeah that’s a fair point to be honest.

It’s definitely not something people will use day-to-day, more something you hope you never need.

The idea was more that when something does get nicked, instead of it getting buried in Facebook posts, there’s somewhere people can log sightings properly and keep everything in one place.

Social side is a good shout as well actually, I have set-up a page (Albeit for site updates atm) but will be sharing posts onto there, and hopefully automating It in the near future. Also has shareable 'cards' for social media.

Given that PH gets regular traffic from people interested in cars generally, a 'Recently Stolen' section might be a good idea to put to the powers that be.

As mentioned, whilst a dedicated site might seem like a decent idea, unless you were in a job that was involved with stolen vehicles or something like that, why would a normal person visit it at all.

That’s a fair point to be honest, and I do get where you’re coming from.

The way I see it, it’s probably not something people would visit daily like PH, but more something they’d use when it’s actually relevant, either checking a car, or if they’ve had something stolen themselves.

The idea behind it isn’t really to replace platforms like PH, more to complement them. That’s why I think something like a “Recently Stolen” section on here would work really well, as it puts that information in front of people who are already into cars and browsing anyway.

Long term I’m trying to build it more around community input as well - sightings, updates, that sort of thing, rather than just a static database. So it becomes a bit more useful than just a one time check.

Appreciate the feedback though, it’s helpful 👍
