So I m in the market for a summer flipper, the idea is to drive it, enjoy it, fix it and sell it come autumn.

The choices are:

MY03 E46 M3 SMG Cab
MY03 996 C2 manual, Cab
MY07 C2S manual Cab
MY06 Cayman S
MY06 MX5 BBR 200

The pick of the bunch is the 997, but ChatGPT likes the MX5. I like the 996, but can t decide.

What say you s?

MY03 E46 M3 SMG Cab
- Why not manual
MY03 996 C2 manual, Cab
- Ugly
MY07 C2S manual Cab
- Bore score
MY06 Cayman S
- Not a convertible (needs to be)
MY06 MX5 BBR 200
- Prob my choice and I’m a Porsche guy

If you have a Cayman on the list presumably it doesn't have to be a convertible?

Only an SMG Cab is probably the least desirable E46 M3!

Anyway good luck whatever you go for.

Fixing up a Porsche will ruin you so I would avoid them.
The M3 would be a good shout, could you tackle a manual conversion yourself?

Why wouldn’t he just buy a manual one? And why not buy a Porsche that doesn’t need ‘fixing up’?

Surely the M3 will cost a fortune to do all the usual issues - boot floor, rod bearings etc.

You certainly need to buy carefully, I just thought the smg which is a bit unloved may be a viable option if it could be bought sensibly.

Thanks all. I’ll be viewing the 996 & M3 tomorrow, the rest included the BBR later on in the week.

I’ll plug in ISTA and INPA to see what’s what with the BMW, and a similar diagnostic tool for the 911.

I’ve had 911’s and a Boxster before, so know what to look out for.

For sure though, AI are not fans of Porsches and urge caution when considering the E46.
