LC500 owners? Interesting 2+2
Discussion
I'm a massive fan of the lc500, are there any owners on here who can share actual ownership reivews? I'm after a fun 2+2, to sit alongside(hopefully) an Ariel Nomad as my perfect toy garage.
2+2 needs to be nicely made, reliable, good looking. so I can't see past the lc500. In typical fashion, now i'm looking, there's not many for sale! A convertible would be perfect for many reasons, although I know they're like hens teeth.

There are a couple of threads on this....
A general thread about the car:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
And an owners thread:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Unfortunately, both threads are a few years old and the images are no longer viewable. But there should be enough information to give you an idea.

Have been a secret admirer of the LC500 for a number of years after reading Brett's thread. I have to admit I have been checking them out on AT over the last couple of month! With school fees as my main priority for a number of years ahead, I simply can't fund an outright purchase....unless I sell my 996 GT3. Having owned the GT3 for 13 years, maybe it's the appropriate time to move into something less hard core, and the LC500 seems an obvious replacement for me. I think I will hold onto my GT3 for 1 more year, and then make a firm decision...
I don't think you'd get anything bigger than a toddler in the back seats unless you're of smaller frame yourself, like many 2+2s it has a barely usable rear seating arrangement. (Although even the rear seats are incredibly well put together)
From a driving experience perspective they are great fun, but the post 2019 cars are quieter due to the OPF, which robs a lot of drama.
The 10 speed box is an absolute joy to use.
If you are going for a cabriolet then it has to be either terrain khaki with tan interior, or the structural blue.
Performance is nothing like a GT3, it's obviously fast, but not bats
t crazy fast.
Beware of niggles and some un-lexus like quality issues relating to the fuel flap, central arm rest, seat mounts, exterior door handles and rear lower reinforcing bar.

They’re a bloody great steer. As quick as a 996gt3!You’ll get young kids in the back fine, seemed bigger than my vanquish did. Just finding the right one!

It’s the 25% extra you pay(vat and duty) that kills it The site is worth a browse if nothing else but to see a colour/trim combo you like.

Thanks, good to know the small niggly issues in advance. From a driving experience perspective they are great fun, but the post 2019 cars are quieter due to the OPF, which robs a lot of drama.

Am aware the speed / performance / handling will be different shall we say, but I don't ever maximise the potentials of the GT3 on the road (in fact, I drive fairly sedately!). Also, my track day years are over, so a swift GT cruiser would be fine for me. Given the automotive industry is heading down the SUV and EV route, this is probably the last opportunity to buy a V8.
If I do buy a LC500, I will be a full-on Toyota / Lexus fanboy as I have both the Lexus GS300 and an Exige (powered by Toyota)

A mate had his LC stolen through the usual Lexus vulnerability of 30 seconds inside the wheel arch to connect to the canbus and re-program the keys. So if you do buy one make sure it has the security plate fitted and consider a hidden ignition master switch.
His only complaint right up to the point of not finding it on his drive was that the Levinson sound system wasn't all that; it didn't have much bass. Other than that he really liked it, lovely engine but nice and easy in town, totally reliable. He also recommends rear steer if you will be in urban streets a lot, said it is very subtle at the wheel but makes a big difference in tight spaces and narrow streets.
He didn't buy a replacement but said he would have done if Lexus had acknowledged the security issues (apparently they just gave him the brush off when he moaned). (As a fellow Lexus theft sufferer I can empathise, Mrs Newc's RX was also suddenly not there one day).

I looked at, fawned over, and was desperate to buy an LC500 for years. I still think they look absolutely incredible. They've not depreciated in years either.
That being said, after speaking to a few owners, I did kinda get cold feet. Primary reason was that they're huge cars...I think my anxiety about parking idiots, and the narrow roads near me is a negative. Someone on here didn't keep his long for that reason.
The other issue is warranty. I was looking to buy an early car, and these cars are now falling out of Lexus's 10 year warranty. I can only imagine some of the bills on this car could be frightening (as expected, given the purchase cost and tech) and not sure how this would impact the used prices either.
