Leah Gazan, 53, a member of parliament, used the 17-character phrase on Wednesday while discussing $7billion in budget cuts to two federal Indigenous departments, as seen in footage shared by Juno News.

While condemning a slash in funding, she managed to smoothly mention the phrase MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+, meaning: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual.

The + represents all other identities not included in the nearly 20-character acronym.

Many thanks to the Daily Mail for making a story about something none of us would ever have heard about or care about. Peak Daily Mail, I hope.

It would be easier to just have the plus, then no one is left out.

I would say Peak Clickbait, but - judging from the headlines on my MS News feed on my works desktop - I think Birmingham Mail is the worst

‘Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’

Seems an oddly specific acronym.

It’s not an acronym, it’s an initialism.

An acronym is something that can be pronounced as a word like NASA.

An initialism is where each letter is read out.

I don’t think the one the topic is about will catch on too widely.

None of the examples so far in this thread are acronyms.

ETA:Well, not until NASA.

Two-spirit, that's a new one on me.

Up till now I was identifying as Apache Attack Helicopter, but tempted to swap to Three-spirit now.

It's how it's fits in with all the other gender and sex stuff that I'm struggling with.

Indeed, how can you identify as someone who is missing or murdered, without actually being missing or murdered?
