As I am old and fat, I feel it is time to switch to a car where I can get in and out without rolling across the pavement, and I am considering a 911 spec'd as a GT rather than a 'Ring special.

I've done a config. https://porsche-code.com/PTVMJVK9 The approach is:
- I'm inside it, not looking at it, so almost none of the external trim is needed
- conversely, I want the interior to be as cossetting as possible
- I want to go long distances in comfort, so none of the pops 'n' bangs extras are needed, esp sport chrono

Summary
- base model, no power mods
- nice colour combo but not PTS
- comfy chairs
- all the leather
- Bose (is Burmeister worth the uplift ?)

Should I strongly consider any other options ?

I find the cabin fitout options to be incomprehensible. Do I need Exclusive Interior Package or Interior Package Leather or Extended Exclusive Interior or... I guess this is one topic that has to be done in the showroom with the sample kits, but I'll gladly take any recommendations.

Cheers.

I can't help with what is worthwhile. I like your spec a lot, looks really nice.
I am a fan of the brown wood with a cognac interior, but that is a very personal thing.

Looks lovely and only you can make the final decision, personally I’d change the diamar interior package to the carbon Matt finish, ditch the racetex extras and upgrade to the 18 ways seats.
Sport chrono is also worth considering as is the sports exhaust.
Front lift is regularly discussed and I’d probably say that it’s not needed on a Carrera (another personal preference) and I could also do without active cruise (but it is a requirement on my daily 😂)
I’ve basically advised you what I’d have so please feel free to totally ignore everything! Whatever spec you go for I’m sure you’ll not be disappointed!

Burmester is a big improvement over Bose. That would be the first box I would tick. Especially for a “comfort spec” car.

The other thing I would want to investigate is which wheel and tyre combo produces the least tyre noise. I would suspect the least sporting possible, smallest diameter highest profile tyres, but that is a guess.

Nice car, rare spec

I m a fan of the purity and simplicity of the base models - lighter as well. That’s how 911s used to be - and more than most people would ever need on the road these days.

Like the spec and colours. Bose, Sports Seats + and PSE are about all the extras I might want.

Such a shame that the Manual gearbox isn’t available.

Colours and the interior detail aside, that's pretty much how I'd spec a new 911 - in fact I did that the other week (although I did add SportChrono just for the look of the dash). In particular, OP, you've gone for the standard wheels - I think they look great on the 992, and better than any 20/21 combo.

But it's your car so spec it how you want. Now that a reasonably decent level of equipment comes as standard, there's nothing 'essential' you need to add.

Thanks everyone, interesting points.

Koln - That was my thinking on the base spec too; it's 400bhp, I have never been on the public road in a 400bhp car and thought 'this could definitely do with a bit more shove'.

And agree on the smaller spec wheels / taller tyres.

Mowley - I think I'll find a dealer with a Burmeister and a Bose in stock and go and play some bangin' toonz, perhaps Mahler's 5th, see how noticeable the difference is.

Trufit - yeah, I rather clicked at random for the smaller interior finishes after the main colour, I'll have to see them in person. Hadn't thought about the lift. I've had it on a Huracan where it was invaluable on some of my regular urban routes, but I've not had it on previous 911s and not really missed it - do you think the 992's are a sufficiently low clearance that it should be considered ? Many aggressive speed bumps near me, but I don't have any sloping garage access issues to deal with.

Defo view the colour samples at the Porsche centre. The leather is very different to the configurator when it comes to cognac. If you are treating yourself to Exclusive leather there are more colours to choose from. Cohiba in the flesh looks more like Cognac in the configurator. Cognac looks more sandy coloured in the flesh and is not to be confused with Heritage cognac.

Here’s a pic of cohiba…

Cognac is almost 'Orange' in real life.

Here's mine, along with Oak Green Metallic.

Lift is very popular and considered by many, a requirement on anything with the lowered PASM. I don’t have it and haven’t missed it on my GTS, speed bumps have never been an issue and I’ve yet to encounter a ramp or car park that causes a problem - I would spec lift on a GT3 though!

This being Pistonheads, please make sure the spec you order is with the consideration of the second or third owner.

Also if speccing carbon ceramics please make sure these are never used and boxed for the next owner!

If you buy this, call me the moment you decide to sell - I'm serious.

P.S. But I must insist on the 18-way seats.

Incredible a base Carrera is a £126k even when sympathtically specified. Nice spec I really like but i'd go for the heritage cognac and have the centre air vents and slats in leather too wink

Ha, Churchie, will do!

Djit / Mog / IMI, thanks for the steer on the interior colour. It's definitely the darker shade I had in mind, so I guess I need to think Cohiba rather than Cognac.

I'll tinker with it a bit more then send it off to my local dealers and see which one seems keenest, though having just seen the Porsche Q1 results I'm rather expecting them to come and pick me up in a sedan chair and carry me into the showroom with a trumpet fanfare.

Sadly they won't roll the red carpet out and will try and up sell you into a more expensive 911 etc. At £126k still worth configuring an S in your lovely gentleman spec to see the difference in price and pushing for a 10% discount on the more expensive model which I doubt you'll get on a base 911. Defo worth calling a few OPCs too. If I was buying today I'd get the base 911 or maybe an S too I think they look nicer than the more expensive models smile

I spoke to a couple of OPCs in recent weeks would quite williningly discount a lightly spec'ed new factory order base Carrera by at the very least the cost of the 1st year VED. I think 10% off could be achieve with hagling
