Moving to OZ - Car importing
Discussion
Hi Chaps
I'm 99% sure that I'm taking at least a year out and F**king off to the Gold Coast. Now the only thing that has to come with me is my nearest and dearest, my 930.
Has anyone imported/exported to Oz. Apparently I can get away with no taxes if I'm only staying a year, OK pending me not marrying the first shiela, who can down a can of the amber nectar and shear flossy quicker than I can !
Costs/Timescales ?

Woof,
Provided you are taking the car back out of the country you will get away with the import taxes.
I bought the 735 I bought in London back on a ship which took 3 months for delivery and cost a thousand pounds but got stung big time by the wharfies who charged $1,500 to get the car off the boat and then quarantine wanted $750 for steam cleaning the car.
This will be even higher now due to the mad cow and foot and mouth outbreak and this will probably be the biggest stumbling block as the Oz govt has spent a few billion dollars upgrading all customs and quarantine sectors especially for the UK importations.
I live on the Gold Coast so give me a call for a few beers and a bit of track racing in the Ferrari/Porsche track days.
If you have ever driven the car into foot and mouth areas you probably won't be allowed to bring the car in or else have a very expensive quarantining of the car.
If you are deadly serious about bringing the car give me an email and I'll check it all out for you but i think you'd be better buying a cheaper porker here and selling it if or when you leave and save on all the trouble you go thru to do this.
I wished I had sold the BMer before I left London as the grief alone was not worth it.
