I do not remember Derry ever using a blue Invacar, he much preferred his Bert designed original three wheeler with special steering and the engine mounted on the side of the vehicle. Bert eventually built him a modified Motocross engine tuned to Bickers spec: and with a racing expansion chamber exhaust. Derry drove this beast flat out all the time and terrified the locals much to his amusement. Derry Preston Cobb was a truly remarkable man considering his disabilities born cheerfully throughout his life.

Back in the 70s when I was a frequent visitor to Box Hill there used to be a guy who turned up in an Invacar with a much more powerful engine transplant.

He had life-changing injuries after a bike accident, but his tuned Invacar allowed him to keep up with his mates!

Back in the 70s in Southport, I saw one of those pale blue plastic bodied ones alongside a 3 litre Capri at some traffic lights. On the green, it shot away from the Ford.

I mentioned this in the office the following Monday and one of the ladies said it was well known locally; it had a ruddy great Norton engine fitted replacing the asthmatic little 2 stroke.
