I have a 15ish year old Sealey 25l compressor, an older version of this one...

Only use it for putting air in tyres and blowing dust out of work tools, it has now decided to not want to work, when I switch it on it gives it's normal buzz/humm but will not fire the engine.

Any tips on what to look at first or scrap and replace?

Also check the unloader valve and non return valves are working correctly and not gummed up with 15 years worth of non maintenance buildup.

I used to have a similar one that did that occasionally.

My usual solution was to just thump it...

I have the same compressor (different brand) and it 100% sounds like you need to reach inside the end cowling and start to move the end fan, likely that will get it going.

It is just a bit stiff, just DON'T LEAVE IT HUMMING!

It may take a bit more help to get going or need a few stop/starts, but it will go.

Yes, I spent a while taking the fan cover off mine, turning the fan manually to free it off, then it would start without blowing a fuse. It was worse in cold weather, presumably because the oil was thicker. I got fed up with that, so bought a new start capacitor, and it's been fine ever since.

Thanks all, will start with the basic 'wallop' treatment and helping the fan along before rerplacing parts
