Flights and chalet are booked for the family trip to Morzine and plans are afoot for the lads trip - likely to be Kitzbuhel, but many meetings at our local pub will be required to fine tune the details in the coming months. I also need to get one of my ski boots fixed this summer, just need to make sure I don't get seduced by shiny new boots when I visit the shop.

Right, now.

We did lads 4 days in Kitzbühel, it was brilliant. I think JQ on here suggested the Austrian 4 day-er and we had lots of fun.
The gang of five (and me) are all advanced British skiers, meaning the locals still burn us off, but we ski fast and don't care what grade a run is.

Question : The keeness for Austria 4 day-er is strong, who has experience of St. Anton?
It is now top of the pile(?)
70 mins from Innsbruck Airport, budget generous slash don't tell the wives. Stay in hotels.

Subquestion: who can suggest another alternative that matches the brief, in Europe?

Where do you go there?

Just back from Val Thorens and could do without paying 26 euros for a burger...

St Anton is an excellent choice for a lads trip.
On the assumption that the lads like drinking.

Sporthotel is well located

The other obvious option would be Ischgl. Basically the same distance from Innsbruck, just turn left at Landeck rather than go straight on. Similar apres ski reputation/cutting edge lift system/etc, the main difference being English voices are the exception rather than the norm.

Just down from the frog. Can recommend.

I do need a new snowboard. The current neversummer colours are beautiful.

Posted to be on my feed. We plan to be in the Portes du Soleil for new year 2026/7, likely arriving on Boxing Day.

I met my now wife in St Anton in 2010, in the Krazy Kangaruh.

That's about all I remember about that trip. It was aggressive.

Leftfield suggestion - Gerlos in Austria. We went last month for the 3rd time and it keeps getting better.

It is a completely Dutch resort, I don’t think we heard another British accent the whole time we were there. It’s lively - Seppi’s is the Dutch version of the Folie Douce, outdoor rave at the top of the mountain, but less stuck-up and Cin Cin in town once it closes. It’s a fairly affluent resort so the food and drink in town and on the mountain is of a high standard, but not expensive. Skiing is great with enough to keep you busy for 3/4 days and the lift infrastructure puts French resorts to shame. It’s also accessible from Munich.

We like it, and will definitely be back in a few years time.

I far prefer Ishgl to St Anton. Great skiing, superb off-piste (if lift E5 is open, you are in for a treat!), and both crazy apres and super spa hotels in a quieter end of town, walkable to the party bit.

We used to fly to Friedrichshafen and drive a rental car from there for far less money than Innsbruck et al.

I did St Anton for Christmas this season. Snow was crap but enjoyed the resort. Short transfer definitely a bonus compared to Tignes etc, which for a 4 day trip is important.
